Installing case head into bolt handle.

I am interested in installing a case head into the bolt handle of my rifle (260 rem). The surface of the removable aluminum bolt knob is flat and it’s rather large (tactical-ha!) so I figure it’s a good candidate. Anyone know of a good “how-to” or willing to walk me through it?

First question likely is what is the exact size drill bit to use for doing this with a .308 size head case?

Here’s a pic from the pride and joy page as an example. My goal would be flush mount or lower.

ive seen them for sale. I would bore the hole on the lathe as you make the knob. the drill bit youd use would be whatever the case rim measured.

Use a completely fouled primer, It'll just look better.

I part off a case head and bore hole in knob for a nice slip fit. Soak a primer in oil or something and dig mixture out of cup. Seat primer and epoxy head into bored hole.

Done a bunch of 54r knobs like that...the rimmed case gives a clean look...
Drill it, bore it, easy-peasy

A 15/32 (.469) would do it I think if you can get it to drill to size
One way to do that is drill it with the next size down then drill it with the finish size.
That is if you dont have a lathe or a small enough boring bar.
That size I got from a 7mm-08 R*P case I had in the shop for checking fit of some parts we make.

i bore the hole on the lathe as im making the knob. use the DRO for exact fit. part off the case head in the mini lathe, then dig the guts out of a new primer and seat it with a touch of epoxy. set the case head in the hole of the knob with a touch of epoxy as well.

I made it. The tenon on handle is tapered and blended with the knob for a smooth look. The knob is aluminum.

Yes, just need the knob. I dont even care about the case head in it. Lol its cool though.

Look at the Precision armament Knobs. they are large enough to take a case head.
