Installing A Recoil Pad

What is a good type of saw to use to cut a fiberglass stock to length for installing a pad?

Have only shortened wood stocks n used a large diameter radial arm saw with carbide/ fine teeth.
With a fiberglass stock I would want to know if the butt was a type that is filled with foam. U have to have some material that u can attach the recoil pad to!

I use a vertical bandsaw for cutting to length, then get it perfectly flat on the belt sander. Confirm layup/construction type as Bob mentioned.
Most manuf's use a lightweight fill behind the structural are that needs to retain the screws- be prepared for some glass work; if you're not sure what you're dealing with in that area you should call the manuf.

Most stocks need a way to orient/hold the stock square to the table when cutting on your scribe line- I screw a temp block of plywood in place that keeps it square to the table when cutting.

I used to cut off synthetic stocks with my bandsaw and an 18 tooth blade. Then I'd use a sanding disc in
my tablesaw, and tilt the disc to square up the butt properly, and set the crosslide for the pitch angle. Some stocks I'd add an aluminum plate in the end to screw the pad down. Also used a wood insert a few times if I recall. I also used a heavy brown paper grocery bag to protect the stock for cutting and sanding, wether for wood stocks, or synthetics. Leave plenty of material to sand to your desired length mark so you can tweak
the sand disc a wee bit for final finish, and go slow cutting off and sanding, as plastic melts pretty easy.

Whatever saw you use, the blade will be ruined for cutting wood, so be aware. I cut them with a hacksaw and true with a file. This after having to replace a couple of bandsaw blades I ruined. This happened on the first glass stocks I did, around 1977. WH
