Inspiration From Shelley's Tinker Toy

I call it the Erector Set. I will mill off the top surface of the 2" alum tube forend and add a guide plate. I still have to make some bits for the buttstock. If all goes well I will build a drop port Viper after I get some experience with this Rem actioned rifle.

I did one after Shelly's gun too. It ended up shooting really well, but weighed a ton!

I may eventually do a version similar to yours what attaches the buttstock to the forend and free floats the rec.

I can also use a conventional style stock similar to how one is used with a bbl block. I feel the advantage my design has is there is no stress placed on the action or bbl.

In the top model wouldn't all the stress be placed at the weakest part of the action,ejection/mag cutouts)? Is the rear attached to the barrel block/shroud? It's hard to tell but it looked to be mostly held on by the trigger area? Just asking....

Spook, where did you get the pistol grip?

Added the glide plate and another piece to the buttstock.

RayJay, what caliber is it?

I have several bbls for my 40x or 700. 6PPC, 6 Beggs, 223 AI, 221 Fireball. I also have a 40x rimfire BR rifle that would work with this set up. The bbl in the second set of pics is just a junk 223 factory sporter bbl.
