Insider info. at Sightron

My source told me about a prototype scope the folks at Sightron are looking at making. It is a SIII 30mm tube 2.5 x 17 X 56mm with illuminated retical dot w/ 1moa mil rads, and 10 clicks per MOA. My source said it was clear, and shot 1 hole groups at 100yds. Send Steven at Sightron an e-mail and tell them to hurry up and get them into production. It may be the best varmint scope made to date.

Maybe good for tactical work but I don't see that low of power setting to be good for varmints unless maybe deer sized.

I must be odd man out here :) - if it's a varmint you can shoot with a .223, I use a 12 power (hey, it came on the rifle when I bought it in 1972 and I'm mostly a woodchuck guy); it has always worked, and mirage isn't too much of a problem on bad days. If it's much beyond 300 yards I go to the Swift, which has an old 20x Lyman All American with fine crosshairs and a quarter minute dot reticle. Sometimes I wish that one was a variable so I could dial it back when mirage is bad. For the varmint shooting I do (nothing smaller than PDs, generally not over 500 yards) the power range of the proposed Sightron would be fine. It would be a nice compliment to my 6-24 and 18-32 SIIIs.

56mm objective on a 17x would be super for low light hunting. If it doesn't have exposed turrets, I would definitely be interested! That would be perfect for my heavy 20" barreled 308.

Sounds like it was made to compete directly with the Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16X50. I'm sure something close to a 4-30X56 would be soon to follow.
