Information on 2016/2017 DCRA matches at Connaught

If there are any questions on either of these documents please feel free to post them here or send me a PM.

Scott,
A friend who is shoots with a tuner asked me to bring this up. Will the chrono fit on a large barrel with a large diameter tuner installed. Will you make them take it off?

I just looked at Magnetospeed site and they make a "Large Brake Adapter" which might work.

Rick,
I had the same thought since the LaRadar is made in Canada, I believe.
Based on that assumption (you know what that stands for) I have one on order.

We needed to provide sufficient notice of our intention, and the certified Magnetospeed fit into that timeline. There is still the possibility that we will also introduce a 2nd velocity check (Labradar) but we have not been able to confirm that yet. While they are made in Canada we have to buy them from the US distributor same as everyone else, and be put on the same waiting list.

Thanks for pointing out the tuner issue Larry, we will certainly address that in the best way we can. Removing tuners would be an absolute last resort.

I use large tuners on my rifles and they are "lock tighted" in place. I would not want anyone messing with it, so perhaps a different type of chronograph that is not affected by sun or temperature fluctuations would be in order.

Larry mentioned a brake attachment for the Magneto Speed. That might be a good idea as well. http://www.magnetospeed.com/collect...essories/products/large-brake-adapter-pre-buy

We are looking at the best way to resolve this with the equipment that has already been certified. I just got word back from Gary at March Scopes UK that the current set-up will allow us to accommodate barrels/tuners up to 2.25", and that additionally we have some wiggle room with placement on the barrel. We will be testing extensively this summer to ensure we haven't missed anything.

At this point having a traditional "shoot through" chronograph down range is not something we are considering for a variety of reasons.

Scotty - I just ordered a Magneto 3 from Amazon and will try it out. My tuner measures 2.020". If there is a problem with fitting around my tuner, I will make an adaptor if the design allows it and bring it. Thanks.

Well Scotty, this is one of those "good news, bad news" reports.

I got the Magneto Speed in today. Looked great, sounded simple to attach. Took me about 5 - 10 minutes to figure out which combination of v-block spacers to use for my barrel (remember the tapers on the barrels will all be different). Looks like the tuner clears. That's the good news part o_O

The bad news is I pity the person/s you are going to put in charge of this. Even if he or she keeps meticulous records of the combinations of different provided v-blocks to use with each taper and caliber, the time it takes to change over with the tiny, tiny screws that they have to work with, I am sure there will be some serious frustration as well as time spent. To make things worse, these tiny screws with a hex head are soft! I had one stuck and rounded off with the v-block still on the head. They provide a tiny hex wrench with it so you really cannot overtighten them to make them do that. That means they are REALLY soft! Maybe it was a bad batch, but this puppy is going back. I still am curious enough to see if the replacement will work as advertised.

Order several extra sets of screws that are hardened because if one is dropped on the ground, it will be hard to find.

I thought about this some more, and you could avoid using the screws and simply stack the V-blocks. The other thing you could do to speed things up would be to make a special clamp that makes it faster to clamp the v-blocks to the barrel. Rubber lined jaws, of course.

Any word on the program yet for the Canadian Nationals next year? The DCRA site says they are after the FCWC, is that correct?

Shiraz, I was just going to say we won't use the screws but we'll look at other ways to speed the process up. How did the MVs compare to what you were expecting?

No details yet on course of fire for the Canadian F-Class Nationals for 2017, as it will likely be dependent on the combined entries for FCWC and availability of markers. I would not anticipate any more than 210 rounds + foulers though. As Rick stated, the Nationals will take place before Worlds (Aug 8-10) and should offer a suitable warm-up for everybody.
