Anyone shooting a .265 neck. If so what are necks turned down to? What bucshings are needed for .002 clearance for a loaded round? Just curious thinking of a new build straight 6br. New blue box Lapua brass.Thank You for your time.

halfmoanut,
I run a .269 neck chamber so if I wanted .002 clearance I would have to turn my brass down so a loaded round measure's .267 a bushing isn't going to give you anymore or any less clearance it will give you .002 neck tension or bullet grip for neck clearance you adjust that by turning the necks of your brass. New blue box Lapua brass loaded with a 107 SMK measures approximately .268-.2685 if your chamber measures .265 you would need to turn approximately .0025 per side for a total of .005 approximately. How you figure this and again this is approximately as the neck thickness and bullet diameter vary but figuring new blue box Lapua has approx. .0125 thick walls so you take .0125X2=.025 +.243 bullet diameter = .268 - your chamber dimension of ..265 and you want .002 clearance so you would want your loaded round to be .263, so you take your measurement of your unturned neck with your bullet of choice seated in the neck and that should be .268 then subtract the .263 that you need for a loaded round and you come up with .005 that needs removed, there are two sides to your neck so divide the .005 by 2 =.0025 per side that needs removed from your brass. Now since your loaded round measures .263, for a .001 neck tension you will want a .262 bushing. Now these are my measurements you will need to measure your brass and and chamber to come up with exactly what you need as I just through out fictitious numbers and it may be DANGEROUS in your firearm. I hope this make sense and helps some.

halfmoanut: 2 of my 6 BR chamberings are .265" chamber neck dia. Loaded ammo with Lapua is .263", and I'm outside neck turning to .010". Mostly use a .262" bushing although a .261" is also available.
