Indoor range????

My daughter took me out to shoot and to dinner after. We went to the Shoot Straight indoor range in West Palm Beach, Florida, the closest to home. I had a real difficult time with the poor lighting and the noise. There were a bunch of 30 somethings shooting their AR 15s and handguns and they were doing one mag dump after another mostly with the ARs and a couple of SCARs. The noise was toooo much for my muffs. I have a set of amber Serengeti shooting glasses with amber lenses and thought they would work better for low light. A set of clear shooting glasses were better but not by much. What is the point of shooting 30 rounds as fast as you can pull the trigger into a silhouette target at 7 yds? It came to me these or some like them are most likely the reason the 1000yd range at Manatee is gone. Is this what the dems think we all are?

Try to think positively. Some of those guys may become Accurate Shooters some day. At least they're pro gun!
I won't shoot at indoor ranges unless I'm forced to because of what you describe. I try to shoot at my favorite outdoor ranges during the week to avoid the blasters and weekend warriors.

Were their activities and firearms dangerous, illegal, or simply not appealing to you?
Was it the types of guns or the fast shooting that bothered you?

I'm not familiar with it, but perhaps the range you mention closed because they didn't appeal to a wide enough spectrum of shooters, and thus the guys who shoot fast at 7 yards didn't help fight for it's survival....but that's merely speculation on my part.

i havent seen any of them where i shoot(outside) but i know there are many around the country. anyway i think i better start checking more often where i go:)

I love my AR rifles, I have nothing against them I own 3 and a spare upper. If these people were training to fight as war or defend them selves, I get it. Put a big target down range put three shots in one aiming point and hit 3 more in another. What threat needs 30 rounds shot into it? Does it take 20 full magazines as fast as you can pull the trigger to see if the gun functions? These guys were only looking for the cool factor. Read the thread Manatee. The range was closed from bullets going over the berm. We had a place to shoot on public land and it was closed cause of this sort of thing. Bring your old TV and shoo it to pieces them leave the mess. They would stay and camp and get drunk get in a fight and the cops closed the place. This kind of behavior will get guns banned. ED3 why do you support it?

wouldn’t it be funny to show up there in leather loin cloth shooting a sling shot as fast as you can. When they look at you just say ooh rahh lol.

Like said before at least they are pro gun. I don’t see how any one can shoot in them without developing a flinch.

Please don't attribute things to my post that weren't there.

You've gone from complaining about shooters participating in safe, legitimate activity to associating them with stupid, drunken, sloven, pigs.

Usually when I read: " Why does anyone need....? ..." It's in some ignorant anti-gun political screed, not on a gun forum.

Personally, I don't need 22 rounds and 22 minutes to prove the accuracy and precision of my rifles, but that's what I choose to do, nonetheless.

If someone else wants to dump 30 rds in 7 seconds, it's their gun and their ammo...

They enjoy it, that's their point.

It's the "I wanna be like Rambo!!!" syndrome. Harmless to others nearby wearing hearing protection. Its akin to wearing baseball caps backwards or some other angle to the norm. Or wearing tuck tailed shirts outside ones pants. It's human nature to emulate the apparent exciting behavior of others.

You are so right, they enjoy it and that is a good thing. I myself having sleep with an AR for a year don't find them that appealing anymore. But that being said,KEEP SHOOTING AND ENJOY

Today I tend to agree with you. But everyone has a different style, but unless you own a range, the old saying "timing is everything" plays pretty hard.
I guess I assume, maybe wrongly, that most are like me and have spent a good portion of their adult life separating themselves from things they do not like. Choices, I wont ride in one of my best friends vehicle, the music needs to blare, 2 old men hard of hearing and now you need to combat the radio.
Trying to regulate human behavior is futile.

Firework mentality. Lighting the string is "fun" then the crackers are all gone :/
Next time light them one at a time ... After 5 or 6 ....Screw that light the string !
Only a desire to improve my ability comes by training. My ability to have training management comes from maturity.
Inside every man is a boy !

At a local range here in central arkansas they put up huge wooden beams above the sightline in front of the benches maybe 10-15yds. Even a full auto runaway cant shoot over the berms. From the firing line you cant even see the sky. Those ranges that allow mag dumps should take a look at this design to keep themselves out of trouble and still let the steel case guys have their fun

as I said, their buying stuff from someone, hope its a little guy

I had something similar happen when shooting at a friends place, he had guys shooting at about 7 yds with AR's. They even hit the target once and awhile. While they were looking at their targets I tee'd up some golf balls. We all went back up to the house about 100 yds away when one guy ask about the g balls, and I said we were going to shoot them. I hit 3 for 3 and then said who's next. One guy said he would like to try and he hit 2 out of 3 with my gun and a little coaching, the smile on his face said everything, he said "that was awesome" . He wanted to know what a gun like mine would cost. At least I was able to convert 1 maybe 2 of them. BTW my gun was just a savage with a Shilen barrel in 20 vt.

Teach them a better way and we'll have a next generation. Let them continue as if they're still playing a video game and they will not be challenged or they'll run out of money and go back to being thumb active video shooters .
