In my quest to quit competition......

Although my shooting schedule is very limited, I have not managed to quit. I sold my old BAT and then I shot the yard sale "Mutt". The Mutt shot very well and a friend talked me into selling it. However, I had a Dasher barrel from the Mutt left over and I got a McMillan stock from Dusty. Another friend gave me an old 6 PPC barrel that fit the Panda that I acquired. With friends like those mentioned, how can one QUIT? The strange thing is that both the cobbled together Dasher and PPC shoot VERY well in my initial tests. Here is a picture of the Panda w/ PPC barrel that Dusty assembled.DSCI0254.JPG

James, that's one of the many advantages of the Pandas, isn't it? There's just so much good used stuff out there...barrels in particular.

Dusty just set back and rechambered an excellent Lilja 3 groove LV barrel for me for an upcoming barrel nut vs shouldered testing project. His chambering work is excellent.

Good shootin' -Al

My time in competitive precision pistol shooting went through an evolution. When I first began, I was obsessed with achieving an Expert Rating. When I reached that level, I became obsessed with reaching Distinguished Expert which I eventually accomplished.

I never did shoot enough master class scores in matches to qualify for a Master rating, but Distinguished Expert wasn't too shabby either. All the while during this journey the overriding goal was to make and remain on the Club's Gold Team (top 5 shooters) which I eventually achieved.

Towards the end when an arthritic elbow forced me to retire in the mid 90's from competitive shooting, I realized that it was the comradery of my teammates that was the most rewarding aspect of my journey, not the awards. Oh, it helped to shoot well for sure but the friendships I developed and experiences with my fellow teammates is what I now, as an old man, recall with such vivid and joyful memories.
