In ear hearing protection

Hey guys,

I am looking for new hearing protection. I currently have a set of Walker’s electronic muffs. They work perfectly, the downside is they squeeze my ears against my glasses and are not that comfortable all the time. I do sometimes use traditional ear plugs, but I like the ability to clearly hear people talking.

What do you guys use for electronic in ear protection? I don’t want to spend an arm and a leg. Something $100 or less would be ideal.

Here's what I use to shot and in my shop. They work well for both application.

Decibullz
I ordered myself a set of decibullz.(from amazon) I figured they have the highest decibel rating, and for the cost, probably can’t be beat. If I don’t like them, I can also return them.

Thank you all for your input

I've tried and have just about all mentioned above, the best for me? Otto in ear, I can wear them all day, click the button and hear voices perfectly between relays, click again and good for the firing line, pricey? Yes but after 3 years worth every penny. Charge the case once or twice a year and ear sets are good all year long and I'm using them about 3 weekends a month for 6 months a year. JMHO

I would love a pair of those Otto's but looking at the reviews, they seem to fail quite regularly. Many users report failure with 2 years. For an item that expensive, I would expect at least 6 years. At that failure rate they seem like a consumable!
Sounds like you got lucky and got a good pair.

Maybe, just never a problem and you know just about the only ones that report are the ones with a problem.

Otis FGESH31 Ear Shield 31 db Behind The Neck Gray Adult 1 Pair - Picture 1 of 1

Have any of you guys tried these? I was looking at them to wear over a hat for Sporting Clay shooting......They are the Otis Ear Shield......Thanks

Regards
Rick

I had good luck going to an audiologist and getting custom in ear plugs poured. Very reasonable for custom fits and are comfortable to wear all day.

Etymotics in ear is the best money I ever spent. (Etymotic makes high end audio equipment) I can't stand most of the cheap electronic hearing protection; they all sound terrible. Etymotics - I don't even know I'm wearing them.

I'm just sad that I sent them through the washing machine. :(

I've tried so many different types.

First, for your over ear muffs. If you don't have gel cups, then get some. They make wearing them much more comfortable, and also seal a bit better around the temples of your glasses.

Second, try these for eye protection. The temples are flat and extremely thin, so it makes the pressure much less.

The ESS Crossbow Suppressor is the first spectacle frame designed for use with ear cup hearing protection and communications devices. Featuring Z-BendGeometry, the frame's ultra-thin temple arms help keep noise out by minimizing the effect on the padded seal of ear cups. The slim temples eliminate the hot spots and pressure points that commonly occur when normal eyewear is worn under ear cups.

As for in ear, I have tried cheap foam all the way to custom molded in ear monitors.
So far the best at reducing the noise and the "pain" from vibrations are the Otto Noizebarriers.

But get the Comply Foam tips. They were very well, but I have read the very mixed reviews on longevity. Mine have been going strong for just over 2 years now.

Those Etymotics look identical to the Otto in ear...

I love my OTTO's, they are expensive but considering they are the only in ear ones that work for me I think they are worth it. My first pair lasted 5-6 years before the button that turns them on wore out, I used my finger nail to many times and cut the rubber. My current pair are going on 4 years now and still work good. I use the foam inserts in them from Amazon and swap them out after several uses with clean ones, they are the only ones that work for me.

I am not able to use muffs at all to shoot a rifle, they just get in my way and rub on my stock. I like them best for the ability to communicate with others like I have noting on at all. They are so comfortable that I have even forgot I had them in and drove home with them in my ears. They must be manufactured by the same company that makes Etymotics model also, but I have not tried them.
