AT-6 by Sharps45 2 7/8, on Flickr

In about 3 weeks or so, Lord willing I'm gonna be 'wringing out' this dude but first a few things in the shop have to be taken care of. One fine flying machine!! ;D ;D ;D

Here's the one I owned years ago:

By the way, there are few finer things in life than watching a big radial fire up and burn that oil out if the bottom cylinders. Right now I can't think of any.

I love the look, sound, and heritage of radials... whether in the air or on the ground.

You know, the second airplane that I rode in was an AT6. Dad was in the Air Force stationed in Arizona at Williams AFB. He snuck me a ride in an AT6. We actually lived at Falcon Field at that time. My first flight was in a crop duster biplane from Falcon Field. We have radials fly over from time to time and I know it.

That radial in your at-6 is as sweet as any I have seen, maybe sweeter. There isnt anything nicer than to stand behind one firing up and gulping in all the lead.

Guys if you get a chance to attend an airshow where the Aeroshell Aerobatic Team is going to perform...don't miss it! I've got two buddies that fly on that team; Steve Gustafson and Jimmy Fordham! They put on a helluva good show. Have one they do at night....and it's fantastic!

My two uncles, both now deceased, were WWII carrier pilots. Both maintained that real airplanes had round engines. 'Course, they would have referred to that one as an SNJ..... ;)

I saw the RM on the side T-6 and it brought back great memories. Here is a picture of another aircraft with RM on the tail and MARINES on the side
