IMR8208 22BR Data

I am having difficulty finding start and max loads for this powder. I am going to see if my 12 twist Bartlein likes the 53 grain V-Max first so anyone with data for this combo would especially be grateful. I click the links where others say to look and nothing there, so I have tried the Hodgdon site thanks.

After checking the burn rate chart and a Nosler book - I agree with your logic. Tell us what you find out please.

28 sounds like a good place to start. There's not much 'official' info out there as this stuff hasn't been around too long (6 years or so?) & companies don't update their load tables very often.

I've been using it with great success in several cartridges ranging from 6HAGAR (almost same case capacity as a 6BR) and 308 for Palma shooting with various 155's.

Depending on your chamber & barrel specs and choice of bullet you may find 28 works OK or somewhere a little up or down from there. Let us know what you learn once you've tried a few variations.

We have a room at our range at 100 yds we can load on site, so I will take 50 primed/sized cases and arbor press with seater. All the bullets/powders taken loose. I am down to 2 powder choices Benchmark, and the 8208, bullet choices are the 53 Hornady, and the 50 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip.

8208 is the best powder I have found after playing with the .22BR for 20 or so years. I am getting old. LOL. :o

I'd have to agree on the best part!

I was at the range yesterday tuning loads in a new barrel @ 600 yards for Palma. Over a spread of 1.6 grains behind Berger's 155.5 Fullbore bullets I got 5-shot SD's from 4 to 7.

I use 33.2 grains of IMR 8208 with the 40 grain Ballistic tips in one of my 22BR's with a 12 twist...

I bet that bullet gets there in a blink!!! Maybe 28 is conservative, but can load a couple at a time to get there.

I'm using 28.7 behind 75 bergers...very good groups.

I think if I remember right you can look at Varget load data and subtract about 1% and work back up. I can run varget and 8208 side by side in my gun, with a little more pressure in the 8208

This is what I have found. 8208 seems to be just a little faster than Varget.
Very similar to H4895 in burn rate

Looking back at the sites favorite 22BR loads, the lightest bullet listed with Varget is the 55 @ 32.5 x .99 is 32.175 or the 1% less. Gives me new parameters and more to think on. I took off Friday, even though we are in some terrible heat wave, will be there at 8:00. The loading room has AC ;)

Will be shooting this for the first time with barrel break in and all new cases so not thinking I`ll see the best right out of the gate, but will certainly be a nice outing!

Thank you all for the great ideas, any more? Lets hear um, Tim

Ran out of my 50 cases before I had things nailed down, but as far as powder the 28.7 grains 8208 worked best with both bullets. I did use 55 gr Varmegedons instead of the 50 Ballistic Tip, it and the 53`s shot smallest with this charge weight, just need more seating depth tweeking.
