imr 8208-xbr info

seeing very few comments/little discussion about this powder . curious why?? perhaps fairly new? looking for a powder to use in 308 win and 223 rem. any feedback/input would be appreciated. hodgdon basic reloading manual (2012),page 8, speaks highly of this powder. thanks for your time.

It works real well in .308 with bullets I use in the 155 -168 grain range as that is all I tested.

Used 8208XBR in my 6BR very consistent, not temp sensitive. VERY clean burning, at least in 6BR. Just for grins I wanted to see how long I could go between cleaning, until accuracy started to go downhill. Wound up the season without cleaning once. Made MR High Master. Approx. 1500 rounds worth. When I did clean it using WipeOut foam I used 10 patches, re-foamed, another 10 patches until last patch clean.

Lapua brass, CCI BR 4 primers, SMK 107, xx.x gr 8208 XBR, ~2800fps.

8208XBR is the best powder I have ever used in a 7mm TCU, truly amazing performance, I can't wait to try it out in my new 22-250, well that's if I get it

I have been using IMR 8208-xbr for my .308 Savage since mid January and I have been extremely pleased with it. I got it because I wanted to switch from Win 760 to IMR 4064 but there was none to be had. The local reloading store guy talked me into trying a pound of and I was very skeptical. I tried it in about forty rounds and the next day I bought an 8 pound can. About a month later they called me and told me that they had some IMR 4064 in, I told them to keep it. I'm sticking with what works for me.

My rifle likes 42.3 grains of it with a 175 grain Matchking. It consistently gives me 2,69x/fps with an SD of 3 or 4 and about 1/2 MOA or less. I'm quite happy with that.

I bought a 1lb can to do some work up shortly before the latest push. From what I saw, it worked very well in my grendel and 308.. I stopped doing anything with it when the shelves went bare. I did come across Alliant's power pro 2000mr and it works well with 69+ bullets in 223 and 168+ in 308. It also meters very well. When I load 223 on my Dillon I'm usually exactly on my load to the tenth of a grain. Every 5th or 6th round I'll be +/- .1. The 2000mr has been in stock a few times lately. If you see some don't shy away. It might be exactly what you're after.

from my trying it in my .22-250.... i will say it is a speed-demon powder...... 40gr. Hornady V-Max @ 4350 fps, just under max

I've tried it in two of my 204 Rugers [32 gr Nosler Varmageddon & 39 SBK] and neither seem to like it. It is a speed demon though and I still have 3lbs of it left that I'll try in the 3rd 204 Ruger, 223 or 308. My LOT's were some of earlier ones when it first came out.

I've been using it almost since it appeared on dealer shelves. Initial lots tested before release were reported to be faster burning ("hotter") than retail version, which is reasonable considering reports are that IMR brought it out to compete with VV N133 for the BR shooters.

First using it for Palma loads it's amazingly consistent. With 155-class bullets I get 3,050 in one barrel, 2,975 in another w/SD <5 & no pressure signs. In 6HAGAR it's great for 200 - 600 yard loads, and even with 105's in 6XC I can get 3,100 fps SD<5 though prefer staying at 3,000 for better brass life.

Lots I've used have been consistent, others report not always true. Yes it's speedy stuff (didn't work for me with 185 gn 308's though) and very dense so 'enough' may leave more room in a charged case than you think you should have.

I've found it to be great with a 175 gr SMK in my .308. Now if I could just find some more. I't about as plentiful right now as Varget 8)
