imr 4895 with 80 gr bullet

anyone using imr 4895 in the 6br with 80 gr flat base varmint bullets..I have been using the H 4895 with good results but I find NO data for the IMR 4895..And find no more H 4895 around here...thanks...I wrote to IMR but got NO answer from them...

I just found in the Sierra manual loads for their 80 grain bullets and IMR 4895....Would I dare use this data with my 80 grain Berger bullets? And it looks like the imr is a little slower than the Hodgon powder?

almost every bullet in the 6mmbr section of the Berger manual have loads for IMR4895 (which is the reason I just bought an 8# jug of same)

Not in my Berger manual....only H 4895 IS LISTED for the 80 gr flat base varmit bullet....Unless my book is wrong...Thanks

cocopuf,

I guess you're talking about the 6BR Remington, not the 6BR Norma. They are so close, tho, that I would think you could take the 6BR Norma load of 29.5 grains and back off 10% as a start.

If you're willing to experiment, and can find them, I've used BLC-(2), H322, and 8208-XBR with the 80 grain match varmint and my 6BR shot all of them well. I'm now using 26.7 grains of 8208-XBR with CCI 450s and am getting 2770 average fps from an 8-twist 24" barrel. Works really well for my VFS shooting!

YMMV on all of this, of course.

yes,it is the 6br remington...Sorry for not adding that in there..

I know sierra has it listed but for their bullets, not the berger's..

I have often been told it is not safe to switch componets around ?

Even though I have with other bullets..Thank yoou for the information..

Switching components around is the reason for the 10% starting reduction from minimum. for the 80 grain Berger, that's about 3 grains of powder. Given that the H and IMR versions are really close in burn rate, I don't see how that 3 grain reduction can get you into any trouble!?! If you're worried, try a 20% reduction, but don't go much below that because reduced loads can cause issues of their own. YMMV of course.

I like you found H 4895 hard to find so went to IMR 4895 and found it woked as well as H 4895 in my 6Br Norma. I was loading 30.2 grains of H 4895 at .010 off the lands and it shot in the the low 2s at 100yds. Then I went to IMR 4895 and it shot in the high 1s at 100. That is with a shilen select match 8twist 26in bull barrel. The load for IMR 4895 was 30.7 grains which is way under Bergers max load of 32.8 it chronod at 3110 fps.
