IMR 4831 data for 243

Anyone to there running IMR 4831 in a 243. I just put together a 8 twist 243. I am going to run the 105 Berger hunting vld and Amaxs. Anyone have any load data beyond what Hodgdon lists. Their data seems light. I don't have a Berger manual, if anyone could pm me that data I would appreciate it.

Berger Manual for 243 Win, 105 grain, IMR 4831 Start load 36.5 grains 2569 fps. MAX Load 40.7 grains 2840 fps & case fill ratio is 92%

:)

The reason I suggested buying the berger manual is it is a good read and has berger history etc, really worth it,didnt mean to offend. Most manuals are alittle light so the loads can work in any gun if you start at the bottom and work up till you see pressure signs.I have loaded beyond the book but being extremely cautious watching pressure signs and if it shows early on I stop and drop a half a grain.I am not suggesting you do this but in certain cases it can work out.Again extreme caution and always work up slowly measuring your cases looking for excessive expansion. If you are not familar with measuring the case to see if you are over the limits dont even think about trying it.One case is the 6.5x55 swede, those book loads are tailored for the 10's of thousands of mausers made on the 96 action which is weaker than the famous model 98k.That is a good example where the reloading imfo is low on purpose.

I use aprox 3 more grains than the Berger manual max.!!!,,,,(use caution) ,,,as Jon says most manuals are VERY conservative because of the litigious society that we have created,,,,,Manuals give good basic reloading methods and procedures ,,,but you cant beat many years of hunting/comp. reloading,,,,,these things take time,,,Roger

DR....any outcome yet? A friend of mine didn't get favorable groups using 4831 with his custom 1 in 8 until he went to using the 115 gr bullets. I think they were Dtacs? Anything below that bullet weight, H & IMR 4350 was still better for him. It did surprise us. We called the barrel manufacturer and they stated it would probably benefit from using 4350 and we discussed all the misinformation about 4350 being barrel burners for 243s.

I've tried 4831 for my 100 & 107 gr, but it's never given me good results and I'm shooting factory barrel. I hear folks talking about 4831, 1000, Hybrid V, 7828...but I am very skeptical of spending $ since 4831 was a flop for me. Really interested to hear results. Thx

Are you guys having to run hot loads with 4831 to get accuracy??? I've tried light to hot and it's never worked for me. Only mild doses of 4350 and bingo. I've heard great things about 7828 with heavy pills.

Just went to range today and had the 105 Hornady BTHPs over 43.0 grains of H4831sc going into sub .5" at 100yds. The rifle is nothing special:1/8 twist, .243, chopped at 20".

As always, work up. This is over max.

Sorry.... I have corrected the powder type. It was "H4831sc" and not "IMR 4831."
