IMR 4451 in a .308

Unless you have a good supply of it I wouldnt waste time working up loads. Enduron powders are no longer made. I had good luck with 4451 but still like 4064 better.
Thanks for that info. That means I will need a lot at bargin basement prices

4451 is about same burn rate as H4350 so a little slow for a .308. The 4166 is a better powder as mentioned. Hodgdon doesn’t list any loads for 4451 and those weight .308.

I had gotten some to try in 7mm-08. Wasn't that impressed with it.
While i had it, tried it in a friends 308 with 168gr bullet.
Velocities were low. Accuracy ok.
Go with the 4166 if you can find some.

I actually used both 4166 and 4451 in 308, they both worked much better in my 243Ackley. I figured while powders are tough to get, going with a newer powder selection would make more sense as it should be more readily available. Spent enough playing with both and working up loads, now I cant find any. I heard it was discontinued so had my dealers check, they verified it was done.

I just loaded some 180 grain ballistic tips for an old '06 using 4451 and it worked very well. I simply used 4350 data and backed off a bit. Don't pass this powder up if you see it at a good price.

I have 8 lbs of 4451. I use it in my 06 ai. Andin my 375 taylor. While I have not tried it in my 308 ar might be worth trying.
