IMR 4320

There's an article regarding this powder in the Daily Bulletin, German Salazar said “IMR 4320 has very small granules and throws very consistently from the powder measure — it is very much like Reloder 15 in granule size — so for those who prefer to throw charges it’s a good choice.”

i have read the article and it doesn't say how it compares to varget--only re-15. i have never used re-15, only varget and some other imr powders (4831, 7828, etc) so i don't know how it compares

I was curious as well. Saw the article a while ago then again on the bulletin today. He is using lighter bullets so wander how they would do with 178gr bullets? IMR states
Short granulation, easy metering, and perfect for the 223 Remington, 22-250 Remington, 250 Savage, and other medium burn rate cartridges. Long a top choice for the vintage 300 Savage cartridge as well.

Just happened to have one lb. of each. Both extruded powders with IMR-4320 being about 2/3rds the dia. & about half the length of Varget. (just eye balling) In my experience through a Redding 3BR the IMR-4320 is noticeably easier to drop consistent charges. The longer Varget stick causes my measure to crunch a stick occasionally. Not so w/ the 4320. It's my "go to" load for 22-250 & .257 AI. Haven't tried it my 6.5X47L yet but plan to. Hope this helps.

IMR 4320 over Varget?.....I stayed with Varget. IMR 4064 vs Varget is a better/fair comparison and that can be difficult if one found the magic with 4064. My 223 Rem 700 SPS Varmint will place 5 shots within a dime using IMR 4064, if I do my part.....IF it's 70-85 degrees F. Hotter or cooler, things change. Went to Varget. Groups are not as tight, but very consistent no matter what temp.
