IMR 4064 IN 243 WITH 70 GRAIN NOSLER BALLISTIC TIP

Yes - it works quite well for me with 70 grain Nosler BT's in both my 10 and 9 1/2" twist 243 rifles. I obtained very similar results with Varget and H4895 with this bullet. In these days of shortages it nice to have another powder or two that you can go to and obtain similar results.

For me, it was also a good choice for the 22 250 with 50 grain Nosler's in a 14" twist. However I obtained my tightest groups with IMR 4350 which was totally unexpected, at least by me. Still, IMR 4064 gave a good balance between accuracy and higher velocity in the 22 250. As with my 243's, I found that Varget and H4895 provide similar results as IMR 4064.

Yes, IMR 4064 is an old standard for the 22-250 and the 243. With light to medium weight bullets, it won’t give up too much to the newer powders.

The new Enduron IMR-4166 is almost the same burn rate with temperature insensitivity and decoppering agents. I'm reworking all of my old 4064 loads with it.

Accuracy load in my Remington 243's is at 39g of 4064 with a fed 210, 70g bullet, which is not a real hot load. Only in newish barrels can you get close to the lands. This leads to shoot in a 75g Sierra HP, then 80g Sierra bt blitz. As the leade gets even longer, the 85g Sierra flat base and the 87g Hornady BTSP will Regain the accuracy you are looking for, all with IMR 4064. 4064 seems to top out on efficiency on the 80g and under bullets in terms of speed with super accuracy. R#19 is amazing with the 85-87g weights with a very predictable and steady pressure curve.

22/250- 34-35.5 with 55's, and cci 200 or BR-2 sealed the deal...touch the lands or .005 off.

In all of these rifles, just barely touching the lands or no more than .005 off gave the best accuracy.

When the leade was shot out with the 55g Sierra's, I went to the 55g Sierra Semi point...and thought I was shooting a berger bullet in terms of accuracy achieved. As the leade got even longer, went to the 63g Sierra semi point with IMR 4350 for amazing accuracy in a barrel with a LOT of wear on it. 63 and 55g sierra semi points are very good kill'en bullets in the field. The 63g Sierra stabilizes just fine in Remington 14 Twist barrels.

AA2700 gives the best throat life in the 22/250 and 243's, in my experience.

Have at it pal, you will never shoot groups w/it as good as you did w/the good stuff. I'm old and have plenty or I wouldn't even say this but IMR 4064 is the biggest sleeper going. I can even remember Precision Shooting compareing Varget to it back when Varget 1st came out. I was using a lot of 4064 at the time so I bought some and never did as well. Back to 4064 for me and Varget is good for nothing but fertilizer. The fact that 4064 is an extruded powder doesn't hold water w/me. I use a balance beam w/dippers then trickle up so that doesn't matter at least TO ME. I've seen quite a few quotes on this site as to the temp sensitivety and copper dispersion but the "ones I believe" that is nothing but bullshit to sell new shit.
I guess what really gets me going is the fact that you all are driving the market to lack of Varget like it is something special. IT IS IN YOUR HEAD!

Agree 100%. I have used pretty much every powder out there, and if all I had left was imr 4064, and H4350, life would be very good. I don’t get the obsession with Varget. It’s ok, but nothing special, like some make it out to be.
