Impact 737R vs Zermatt TL3?

Anyone here who has owned both a TL3 action and Impact 737R have an opinion as to which they like more. I have a TL3 action which I think it great but the 737R seems to be a bit more popular. Thoughts?

@padom is quite a fan of the TL3 and he has tested everything.

They're both fine actions.

The Impact is already popular, but should get a lot more popular once they go in to full production with their 75 degree bolt.

They are both great actions but I'm a huge Zermatt fan. I have 7 TL3's.. 6 repeaters and 1 single feed and a RimX.

Main reason I have so many and dont shoot anything else is because they feed everything like butter and have the interchangeable bolt heads. I have 50-60 TL3 barrels I can screw on any of my 7 TL3's and shoot. Same trigger, same everything on every one of mine so everything is consistent across all 7 of them. Zero issues, problems or complaints.

Yes, Impact has interchangeable bolts but they are way more expensive then Zermatt interchangeable bolt heads. So, if you want to switch between 223, 308, 6.5PRC, etc.. just swap the bolt head and screw on the new barrel and go shoot. Other than that, Im sure youd be happy with both.

Zero issues has been my experience too with my current TL3. It just seems looking around the internet that the 737r is much more popular and maybe I am missing something. Anyway I just ordered anoterh TL3. Now I need to figure out what to do with it. Any change you ever shoot 6BR from one? How did it feed? Still trying to decide if it want to go GT or BR.

I've been shooting 6BR for many many years in my TL3's. Zero feeding issues what so ever. I also shoot GT, 22BR, 22GT, 223rem, 308win, x47L, 224V, 220TB, 6.5cm.. never a single feeding issue with any of them.

I was running AI mags with kits without issue but have been running MDT 12rd BR mags for a while and they run perfect.

Any preference for BR or GT?

Yes, BR all day everyday and on Sunday. I just love the BR. So stupid easy to load for. I just love that little cartridge. GT took much more effort to dial in load wise

Preach.

Seems picky to me. I've seen moderate performance, but it's no BR.

I see the Gt, like I see actions. Lots of fanboys. The 6gt is the new 6.5 Creedmoor. I mean it's cool and all, but it ain't all that.

Owning both I prefer the impact but that’s not to say the tl3 is a bad action. I like the idea of full integral and at the money they are they should be in my opinion. I love the mechanical ejector on the tl3’s and Kelblys though. For bench it’s perfect, and in the field they aren’t going fail. The impact I find smoother than the tl3. You don’t go wrong with either and if you have a tl3 your use to it.

I also have both. Both are good and they make it tough to be picky but I prefer the Impact too. My TL3 has poor fit between the bolt head and the firing pin and needs to be bushed, but because of the design I understand that it cant. I therefore have to watch primers and keep pressure down below where it otherwise could be.

I also own and have shot out many barrels with both actions. Both are great, but my last couple barrels that I ordered I chose to chamber for the Impact.

Overall a slightly more robust design, a bit more positive primer ignition (firing pin fall), less moving parts and less to break, more leverage on the bolt handle. Just feels more solid.

Might eventually swap one of my TL3's for a second Impact action.

How much firing pin fall does the impact have?

I really like my TL3 but when I paired it with a Triggertech diamond I only had about 0.19 firing pin fall. To remedy the situation I had to cut the cocking ramp deeper and modify the cocking piece so I could shorten the overall firing pin length from the front stop to the cocking piece to get more firing pin fall without a lot of cock on close. I now have 0.25 firing pin fall and little or no cock on close. The action is smooth as silk and the ignition is improved. I really like the controlled round feed and the mechanical ejector. The TL3 would be the perfect action if it had a deeper cocking ramp, so you could get more firing pin fall and if it had a trigger hanger so you could time it for different triggers. The trigger hanger would also allow for much easier trigger maintenance.
I don’t own an Impact action but I have tried one and they are also excellent and come with a trigger hanger. The only thing I didn’t like about the action was the spring loaded plunger ejector as I prefer the mechanical ejector.
