IK CZECH Surplus

Hi there,
Got some 4K rounds of Czech 7.62x51 surplus ammo (IK) which have been using for a while with excelent results : replacing military bullet with sierra MK 168gr and reducing poder from 43.5 to 40 gr. Imitating a match round. Also extended COAL to 2.9" close to the lands. Excelent results, even for competition : SUB MOA.

In order to reduce costs, tried to reuse the IK military bullets, reducing the poder from 43.5 to 40 grains with more tan awful results with different COAL varying from 2.8 to 2.9. Wondering if better replicate the original round with its original poder measure (43.5)? The original rounds vary too much the poder measure, from 41gr to 44gr. Thought standardizing poder and playing with COAL could improve the cartridge.

IK round : brass case, Berdan, 145gr FMJ bullet, Powder 43.5gr (can´t detrmine which)

Rounds Shot in a .308 remington sps tactical, 20" 1:10

Another concern is if 145gr is not suited for the sps tactical. The 168 gr SMK´s work excelent.

The remingtons in .308 that I have all really like the 168 grain match bullets. If what you are doing works, why not reload the berdan brass cases and continue to use them. You make a wood dowel and a base made of aluminum, steel, brass etc and fill the case to the top with water and hit the dowel with a hammer lightly and the berdan primers come right out, then let them dry real well.Berdan primers can be found sometimes easier than boxer right now.The ik brass isnt bad stuff,in the states we can get most boxer cases quite easily. Keep doing what you are doing as long as pressures seem normal and the brass isnt stretching.

Findings :

This Sunday at range, a friend from the military suggested to re-seat IK bullets to its original COAL of 2.8". His opinión was seating it so little (2.9" COAL) was surely causing concentricty issues. This particular little 147 grain has little bore surface.

With my Lee hand press did so at the range, two 100yd five round testing (with standardized powder charge to its original average 43.5) and the lousy inaccuracy was gone. Some was still there, but not so big. Started to lower powder until the magic load appeared : 39 grains. The original rounds vary powder from 39 to 44.5 grains. Average 43.5

Finally got cheap MOA surplus (that needs some previous work).

May this information be useful for anyone dealing with this kinfd of ammo.
