If you're not a US citizen, be careful with your pics.

"Great Britain"

The Great in Great Britain refers to the post 1707 nation state incorporating the various parts of the British Isles, or 'British nations' as they're often called because of their different histories and cultures. Previously, it was England (as Scotland was an independent country).

The adoption of 'Great Britain' was to recognise that it incorporates Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England. It's actually been outdated since 1921 when Southern Ireland became independent.

I don't understand, I think there's more to these stories. The British send rifle teams to the US and Canada every year to compete and there is no "retaliation" when they get back to GB. Yes, they take pictures, post them to the internet and everything. Thinking the OP may be BS.

There's a reason you don't see much on the internet from UK shooting enthusiasts. The sport is really an open secret, many here think gun ownership and shooting doesn't exist. If you're competing over here you have to be very keen as there are lots of obstacles. It's also expensive. I understand why there is a reluctance to make any concessions in the US. It will never end, once you start, until public ownership is removed entirely.
Thank You for your thoughts. This is a good reminder. Take care brother.

While on a business trip, I shot in a match in Blair Atholl in 98. This was with a borrowed Musgrave bolt gun. In 2001 I shot at a small club match outside of London. This time it was with a borrowed suppressed AR15, the gasless kind.

I guess I was lucky I did not get hassled. The police probably have their people monitoring, aka spying, on these clubs.

Quite right. There are lots of shooting pics on social media by Brits and also several UK based shooting forums. Legitimate shooters aren't 'hassled' in any way as a result.

From our newspaper coverage of this case (widespread up to national newspaper level and very critical of West Yorkshire Police), there is apparently much more to the story than simply arresting someone for a pic of using a shotgun. According to yesterday's coverage, it seems someone made a complaint to the police about threats from an individual with the same name, but not the same person. The shotgun pic was somehow incorrectly linked to the investigation of the complaint.

He was arrested and questioned about using a firearm in such a way as to threaten or harass others, a serious offence under the Firearms Acts. A holiday or any other snap like this would never be treated as such though, but someone (whether the complainant or the police, who knows), appear to have got their wires seriously crossed.

Nevertheless, I can hardly see how this pic could even so be used or seen by others as portraying threats or harassment. Unless, there are other yet to be disclosed facts which do implicate this guy in the original complaint in some way, I'd expect him to sue WYP for false arrest and imprisonment.

Well, if you can be jailed for a retweet in England, I suspect that posting a pic of yourself with an awful, icky, scary, GUN [gasp]

... is probably punishable by "two bullets to the head," as they say in the parlance of our times.

I like the pic of the guy that set off the whole uproar...LOL, he's shooting a shotgun, but judging from his stance and his wince, you'd think he was getting ready to touch off a two-pound 460 Weatherby or anti-tank rifle...

To be fair, Ruby Ridge and Waco were tragedies mostly due to the decisions of a few non elected people. The shit going on in the UK is a matter of state policy.
And to be fair look at the decidions the leaders of these organizations have made in the last 6 to 8 years. Scares me today.

I think what entertains me the most is when I hear Brits try to defend the indefensible.

"But ... what if someone's feelings were hurt?"

Or when they try to pretend they're not sheep: "Why, just last week, I told my MP, 'Your policies make me sad!'"

It's as absurd as the notion of slaves fighting to keep the institution of slavery intact: "We don't need you Americans to tell us what's what! We LIKE being treated like serfs by our government!"

Or as sad and embarrassing as a battered husband swearing up and down that -- despite all his bruises and his reflexive wince whenever his wife raises her voice -- his wife doesn't beat him.

And then there are those in the nomenklatura ... "the privileged class" ... the slice of society that accounts for probably the vast majority of "sport shooters" (i.e., "gun golfers") left in the country. Their attitude seems to be one of "Well, I won't squawk about you rolling tanks over everybody else so long as you don't take away MY special privileges." To me, those are the most contemptible ones...the moral equivalents to the pigs in Orwell's "Animal Farm" because they're willing to throw everyone else under the bus in exchange for some perceived special treatment by the Boss ... and they deserve what they get.

The socialists/Communists have to stay in power, thus take away the population's way to first gain knowledge of what is going on, then limit their way to fight.

In Canada, England, and Australia, the population has a very limited ability to criticize the government; it is against the law. In all three countries, you have seen a very aggressive agenda in disarming the people. The Liberals want to turn the USA into what is going on in Canada. It is hard to believe how stupid the human race can be.

Indeed, and precisely the primary reason I left my native Canada forever, became a US citizen to never look back.

Pay attention people, and never ever say "it can't happen here".

Like so many things in life that change and not necessarily for the better. If our fathers and grandfathers could have seen what Europe has become, they probably would have said, "Let the Germans have them," instead of going to fight in WW2.
Same as our founding fathers would have said, "To hell with that, I'll just pay my taxes", if they could have seen where we are now.

Spot on: "the British send rifle teams"; that means NRA-UK registered, approved, vetted shooters, many with a military or law enforcement background. No relationship with an isolated, lonely amateur holding a shotgun, who is easier to bully, threaten and harass. The Soviet and Chinese too sent rifle teams to competitions all over the world and their policy at home regarding firearm possession was, and probably still is, appalling.

Isn't this just the British way, when it comes to firearms? This is the same country that only exists because the US of A, a country with a constitution guaranteeing the right to keep and bear arms, intervened in WWII through the lend lease program and ultimately being drawn into the conflict after Pearl Harbor. It's questionable if Britain would exist as it does today if a free USA had not been there.

Not to mention the US intervention in WWI. Britain wanted control of our troops once we landed there. Pershing said not on my watch! Can you believe that?
I think I need to comment. I'm sure a few won't be happy.

Yes, lend lease did help heaps and profited the US.
UK would likely have fought on without the US had it not been for pearl harbour.

Ukraine,,, UK, US, AU should all hang their heads in shame. Again US loans armaments and then restricts their use, defence only, NO attacking Russia with them,, untill very recently. Ukraine has been forced to fight with one hand behind their back for close to 4 years. And now Trump wants them to just capitulate so he can have the NPP.

UK has done much the same.

AU buried 45 choppers rather than sell or give them to Ukraine.

Don't know about French and German. Probably no better.

All three should hang their combined heads in shame.
P.S. If Ukraine soon capitulates Putin will feel emboldened and soon after will take stock and attack again, who knows where.....Sound familiar?
