If you ordered a new 6ppc barrel today, what twist would it be?

just curious if yot guys that have shot 13, 13.5, and 14 twists have seen a definite advantage in one over the others shooting 68 grain bullets in a 6 ppc. Thanks

There are a fair number of each of the ones you list being used

Some of the 68bt are pretty long for a 14
Some people feel a 13 works really well with these longer 68bt

A whole lot shoot a 13.5 or a 13.75

What bullet do you plan to use ?

I have been shooting Bartlien 13.5 for the last 2 years

Are you going to be shooting this at both 100 & 200yds in competition? If so I'd be inclined to go with a 13 or 13.5 twist.

As far as a DEFINITE advantage of one over the other, I think you'd have to be a world class shooter to see a definite advantage to one over another day in and day out. Maybe just pick the barrel maker and twist you feel most comfortable with and don't look back. Your choice of bullet(s), wind reading, and tuning skills may more than make up the difference real or perceived.

I've got a 12, a 13, and a 14 twist. And I've shot all of them on the same day at the same time at both distances many times. And the results are conclusive...... you'll drive yourself nuts trying to figure it out. JME. And good luck and good shooting with your choice. WD

Driving myself crazy is what I'm best at We shoot 100,200 and 300 so I have been thinking of trying a 13 tw. I'll most likely not be able to tell any difference at my skill level.

Someone told me that the 80 grain Bergers would stabilize with a 13" twist, but that Bart's 80 gr. being a BT needs a 12 twist. Any confirmation on this? Of course the original question was about a PPC barrel and I believe that most of the work with the 80s has been done with versions of the necked down Grendel case, which have more capacity than a PPC. Has anyone played with Bart's 80s in a BR? I believe that the whole thing with the Grendel wildcats has to do with bolt face size, but some have so called universal bolt faces, and the capacity would be similar.

Boyd, I've shot 80gr BT from Precision Ballistics and 80gr Berger from a 12 twist 6PPC, 6br, and a 6xc. I have been waiting to try Bart's 80's in the br when he releases them.
-The PB bullets provided the best groups for me out of all three rifles at 100yds.
-Groups at 200yds the br and XC are still pretty much equal and the ppc will test your wind reading skills.
-At 300 the XC is the clear winner but the BR is still very much in the race.
-At 400yds the XC is the clear winner out of the 3, but if one had to go to a 10 or 12 shot match I'm not sure the extra powder in the xc wouldn't become it's downfall. This was all group size and shot on the same day.
-Based on having tried some of Barts excellent 68gr, and 103's, I have very little doubt that his 80gr would perform admirably well from a 12 twist. Especially (IMHO) if they could get a little extra umph out of that Grinch as compared to a BR. WD

A friend has chambered a barrel for a 6.5 Grendel necked down to 6mm, with no other changes, and reports that his customer's groups are excellent with 80 grain Bergers. The reason that I asked about the BR is that my Viper has a universal bolt face, and if the BR is the equal of the Grinch, it would simplify trying the 80 grain bullets quite a lot, and save considerable money.

Boyd, as I recall the BR and the Grinch are fairly equal in capacity, but the Grinch has shown "more" velocity. Sorry, I can't be more quantitative, but don't recall seeing or hearing any comparative velocities.

And the 80gr Berger is a very good bullet so no surprise that your friend is shooting decent groups. WD
