I know a bunch of .308 shooters that are sold on IMR4064 in their rifles. That seems to be an acceptable (if not preferred) powder for that caliber.
I load for a .243 as well as a 7mm-08 and they both do extremely well with IMR4064.
All that being said, I have a 6.5 Creedmoor and the general consensus is that H4350 is the "preferred" powder, and IMR4064 should only be used with 120 weight bullets or lighter.
Unless I am horribly mistaken, aren't the 243, 308, and Creedmoor all basically the same case with different sized necks? And if that is the case, then why would there be a general opinion that IMR4064 shouldn't be used with 130 and 140 grain bullets in the Creedmoor?
I haven't done any loading for the 6.5 with anything other than H4350, and am having acceptable results with it. But I have a large amount of IMR4064 on hand and if I could use it on the Creedmoor it would eliminate a powder that I have to keep on hand. Before I waste bullets, powder, and time I wondered if anyone here could shed a bit of light on this?
