If I rebarrel from 6.5 CM...

... what should I chamber the new barrel? Rem700 SA. XLR chassis.

Goal is a PRS style 1200 yard rifle. Flat shooter.

I hand load, so no worries there.

Depends on what your tolerances are. Barrel life? New brass / in the tank for a specific brass manufacturer? Ever going to shoot factory loads or want the option just in case? Care about cost per load? Is wind drift more or less important?

Nothing wrong with the 6.5 Creedmoor. If you are looking for something a little flatter but more wind drift than a 140, drop to a 120/123 grain bullet. Really anything that runs in the 2850 fps range is going to do well.

Bbl life maybe 3000 rds is good enuf. Cost per round is open. I'll pay for quality. Will never shoot factory loads. Learning wind is my next objective.

120 / 123s is a good idea.

6mm Creedmoor will be a little flatter but may give up a little in the wind to the 6.5, and a little barrel life. You can get 2900+ from the 6.5, with 130gr AR Hybrids, which makes it pretty flat and gives up very little to the 140s in the wind. In spite of all the hate, the 6.5 Creedmoor is a very good cartridge. I’d probably stick with it and load it to its potential.

@Hondo64d ... Yes I am leaning that way. I need to see if it will shoot with my current barrel twist rate.... Which I need to re verify with my builder.

It's odd how 6.5 CM does get hated on. I guess it became too much of a fad and all the fan boys ran out and got 1. I got mine 2008... Which to my reading is about a year after the caliber hit the market and have loved it ever since

If you had success with the 6.5CM, for me, it would be hard to not just go right back to another 6.5CM, but if you have a hankering for something different, I think the 6CM would be the natural choice.

Or, split the difference and go with a .25 caliber.
The 131gr. Blackjack is looking pretty good.
@nmkid built 1 and would provide some info as to the performance.

Not entirely a bad idea and I've heard those 131's AKA 131 SMK :) shoot very well, but being limited to one bullet would be the biggest downside.

I seem to remember that the 25 creedmoor is a barrel burner...
Every thing comes at a price.

If it shot good boredom could set in, and the need to tinker could take over for sure.

David Tubb 6xc with his reamer, and shoot 15 Dtacs like Tubb does. He sells Peterson Brass with the small primer, use Rem 7 1/2 primers.

Man, does that work well.

Buy one of his brakes too.

Why not stick with the Creed. You have everything for reloading it already, right? Most of the “hate” is tongue in cheek because of the fan boys.

Im leaning that way... researching what bullet / powder. Thinking a 120 /123 bullet and hearing good things about RL- 17.

RL17 and 147eld are really good in my 6.5creedmoor and give 2750fps from a stock RPR without pressure in Hornady brass. IMR4350 also shoots very very well. I haven't bothered with anything else yet, but the 123 are on my list to try before the barrel is burned out. I bet RL17 will give you great speed with them.
