ID'ing this Rem 700 BDL Bottom Metal

Hi all,

I picked up an HS stock along with bottom metal last week off the hide. Pretty pleased with it as I got rid of a similar stock last year and ended up regretting it.

In any case, I'm stumped as to the make of the bottom metal. It's a BDL, steel, and it's got a tough gray/black finish on it (which looks to be an IDENTICAL match to the finish on the stock Remington tactical barrels).

Design wise, it looks the same as the black aluminum bottom metal on an SPS Tactical. It's hefty though - at least twice as heavy as the aluminum bottom metal, maybe more. For reference, the stock and bottom metal were apparently take offs from a Remington Police, but I can't find anything out there that would tell me this came from Remington.

Rem supplied those on some "tactical" models as well as LE guns. I picked one up along the way and now it has happy home on my 40X Rim fire, standard barrel. Pulled it out of its factory target stock and stuck it in a SA BDL stock to shoot some local BR50 type matches.
Gave the boys with the Stiller Holeshot actions a run for their money. They had more in their boogie woogie rests that I had in my rifle and scope!

Thanks for the info, kendog. That makes a lot of sense. I figured it had to come from Remington with the design and finish, but couldn't find anything to confirm it.

Any markings on the inside of bottom metal where spring attaches?

Looks like 98 mauser bottom metal to me. Correction: I believe kendog is correct.
