ibs question

If the entire camera system is setup/placed behind the firing line, myself think it should be fine to use during the Sight-in period. Then removed, eliminated, or turned off before the Record target period at the command: ("THIS ENDS YOUR SIGHTER PERIOD. ALL SPOTTERS AND NON-SHOOTERS OFF THE FIRING LINE”).

If your asking for a "down range" in part type camera system, you first will need approval from the range/club that you would like to use and set it up on. Then that range/club would need to get it approved by the IBS to there planned tournament process and procedures.

For what it is worth, there use to be a rule, no electronic equipment on the line at any time. That may have changed with the rules when the rule book was rewritten......... Jim

Are you looking under long range?, You can see your hits with your scope, and you sure can't use it doing a match. I feel sure somebody would eliminate it for you. Plus it would be a way to cheat having somebody calling your hits for with it set up behind the firing line. Like calling the shots to you from the pits over a cell phone. ...... Jim

If you can't see the hits then nobody can, so how can you hold a match? ....... Jim

I recently answered a shooter question that wanted to buy a scope that could see 6mm bullet holes in a target at 600 yards. I answered, there are no scopes able to do that consistently and if there were, we would all have one at almost any cost. Shoot in central FL, mirage. The very best scopes, on days with ideal conditions, you can sometimes see 6mm holes in the white. In the blue very seldom. Hey, here's an idea, have a special class for shooters that need or want to see their bullet holes. They could call it short range or score matches.:D

Maybe some day when all ranges have cameras or E-targets, the rules may change. But for now it just would not be fair for some to have and others not.

Why are you concerned about seeing bullet holes at 600? you will be looking for hits on clay birds or on a painted steel plate..... If you are lucky and have pull targets you are looking for the spotter....... Same for 1000....... I don't think electronic targets will ever happen because you can't measure groups on them....Jim

you can measure groups with the new software on targetvision camera system dont think it ready for ibs

No, and you see that groups a measured to the .001, plus it needs to be centered. None of this and the electronic targets can be used in the same sentence...... Jim

not yet but its coming
I agree.... the future is target cams and/or electronic targets and "live real-time" results.

In Long Range Benchrest, camera systems for Sight-in would rock !.!.!
It would be the same as having live pits without having to do pit duty. That would also make LR Benchrest more of a spectator sport, with appeal and gains to promotional aspects.

Hoping sooner then later myself.

It makes for an easy day of LR F-class

You guys missed my point. In IBS at a range that does not have active pits, you sight in on clay birds on the berm. "IF" you were able to see your first record shot you would either be on your way to keep running them, or IF you did not care about group, you could move your point of aim to center up your follow on shoots. It has nothing to do with group size, but an advantage if you are hunting for high score. Now who the heck needs a camera:D. The enclosed group was shot by Chip Willing this afternoon just for fun. 50/3x 1.113" by sighting in on clays at the 627 yard berm then shooting this group at 600, 6.5x47. Have to come down about 3/4 min. He is not even shooting the match tomorrow:eek::eek::eek::eek:. He is our statistician! SteveDSCN0671.JPG
