IBS 2019 600 SOY Final

Great shooting, Bart. 2 years in a row is impressive!!

Quick question --- do points earned at every match count toward the IBS SOY?...or is it something along the lines of "your best 'x' number of matches." I have almost no familiarity with the IBS (and its SOY program) outside of the few matches I participate in at Deep Creek each year.

I flirted with the idea of proposing a 600yd NBRSA SOY award with two rough stipulations - have to shoot at least 3 different ranges to be eligible and only your best 6 matches count. The goal would be three-fold - 1. encourage shooters to visit venues they might not originally travel to, 2. encourage more participation at regional matches (ie. make them have more "meaning" as it relates to the overall season), and 3. try to put a ceiling on the amount that money could influence the outcome. Of course someone could travel to every possible match in the NBRSA region and thus they would have more opportunities but at a certain point they wouldn't gain significantly from it because they could only count their best 6 matches. The 3/6 numbers were just rough suggestions and could obviously be altered.

Thoughts?

Great shooting again this year Bart! I am not just saying this when I say you have worked hard! I remember when you started 600 and were not doing that great, just like most of us when we started. But you stuck to it and brought some inovative ideas to the table from your short range knowledge. And you have worked on making some of the best Long Range 6mm bullets along the way! You also have started provided live feed from matches in real time. Guys use to have to wait for Precision Shooting Magazine (which was a great magazine) to come out 2 months later to see results, now it is real time! You have been a gentleman of the sport and have helped it grow! Thanks you! Samuel Hall

Jason,

Each 600 yard range is allowed up to 6 SOY matches. The more shooters the more points that are available. For SOY they count your best 14 matches. There's a not so great pic of the program!

Sam,

Very kind of you! Thank you very much! That means a lot coming from you! I have had a ball trying to figure out how to make a rifle shoot at 600 and 1000. The best thing isn't the shooting but the people I've met along the way! My shooting family is just as close as my regular family.

I've had an incredible year and I have been blessed beyond belief! That only comes from one place, and that's our Lord and Savior! All praise Goes to him!

Bart

Congratulations on a decisive win Bart!

Congratulations to Gabe & Sophie as well and everyone on the list. I feel fortunate to see my name down there on the second page and want to thank the great bunch of guys at Elbow Lake for showing me the 600 yard ropes in September as well as the Montana Guys for getting me started in Long range competition in 2018. It's been a great experience and I only wish I'd started sooner in life!

Bart & I shot on the same relay at the 600 yard Nationals this fall as well as Scotty Powell and I see Scotty got a pile of SOY points there. This was my third 600 yard match ever, 1 & 2 being Elbow Lake in September and I was benched next to Scotty. So halfway through the light gun match I got to thinking I was having a pretty good match for my 3rd ever 600 yard match against what I consider the best of the best then a little later I realized I had my competitor number confused with Scotty and had been checking his targets! I had a blast!!! Regardless of the weather!

Looking forward to more 600 yard matches this coming season.
