I was thinking of selling my Gen. II 4.5-27 for ATACR SFP

I wanted to know what some of your opinions were on the two scopes. I have an NXS 5.5-22 and really like it but my extra power on my Vortex comes in handy when I shoot over 1400 meters. The Gen. II is a very capable scope but I really do not care for the FFP because the reticle needs to be close to half power before it is useful. IMO... Considering that, I can use the SFP ATACR with just as good if not better results for how I shoot. I like the reticle values staying true through out the magnification range on the FFP but when I shoot long range I am almost always at full magnification and if I am at half-power I just double the reticle values. Am I missing anything?

Thanks for the input.

Believe it or not, some scopes who claim say for example 25x max magnification, when testing them, they end up having less and sometimes a lil more magnification than claimed. So this affects the magnification zoom ratio.

So if you can range with a sfp scope at a specific magnification (most of the time it's at max mag) you still have to verify that it really adds up, but I don't know if this will affect the ability to range at half mag by just dividing things in half.

Go through the following link and near the top Carl has a link on how to test the true magnification and zoom ratio of a scope.

FFP is ideal for follow up shots, holds and leads. It simplifies everything.

Have you set the scopes diopter to match your eyes ??? You should be able to see the reticle down to 10x with out searching. Yea it will be thin and won't make out any hash marks but I never had the need to make out hash marks at low mag.

I don't have a 4.5-27 vortex but I have a 4.5-30 XRS.

This is just my uneducated opinion so please don't fry me

Thanks for the input. I have set the scope to match my eyes.

Also, at half mag. you double the values in your reticle not cut them in half for hold overs but I am not sure about ranging at half mag... I would assume it would be the same way, just double the reticle value when measuring the height of the target. Right? I have always been at full power for that or it was close enough that my estimation was good enough.
