I tried to order a muzzle brake & tuner from Spearhead Machine in Canada?

It was denied stating the ATF forbid it. Does anyone know what this is? I have attached email as a pdf.

I do not understand why the ATF would care about letting a brake/tunner into the country. This is a legit company with a solid product.

My understanding, they are attempting to work with the ATF to get approvals for their entire line of products that CBP will accept. Too many agencies involved and the ATF and CBP don't have a contact person who can stick handle the communication between the two agencies... It is unfortunate as they make top notch brakes and tuners.

Sounds to me like it probably needs something like a classification number from Commerce in the US, most likely that would be recognized by CC and US customs. Although, it'd likely be the same as the EC tuner brakes, as they are being exported to Cda, probably some other brands as well. so, they'd have US nbrs in both the systems. As I understand it, Commerce deals with everything but shotguns now. Not sure if ATRS or EM Precision or maybe KS Arms can point a person in the right direction to inquire, as I believe all three export to US.

ITAR: International Traffic in Arms Regulation
One of the provisions is that any export or import can only be done by registered companies. Still, there are limitations as to what can be shipped across country borders. A muzzle brake surely isn't a firearm but still strictly controlled. Back in the day when I worked in the industry we had to review ITAR and FCPA on a quarterly basis.
FCPA: Foreign Corrupt Practices Act
Anyone remember SHOT 2011? Several executives from the firearms industry were arrested at SHOT based on a Fed sting operation where agents posed as foreign agents trying to buy weapons and requesting that they be "compensated" (bribed) as part of the deal.
Sadly, in the past, these laws have been used to MAKE criminals instead of catch them.
