I hear you there!I’ve put up ten-twelve cords a year for the last 22 years. Every year I say it’s the last. I’m gonna buy a furnace. Hah. I’m 60 and damn tired. Still...

Sounds like you have government bureaucrats thinking for ya !!!!Be thankful you live where you do..... here in LA county they banned wood fireplaces in new construction. Natural gas only now.
I heat with wood. Usually cut about 10-12 full cord a year. This year looking like less at this point. Haven't started cutting. Being retired, I like making it my winter project. Cut it as I need it. Usually an hour a day. I enjoy it actually. Father-in-law is 93. Still cutting and splitting (with maul) 3-4 cord a year. He cuts year round. Looking at him I think, it's probably what's kept him alive and well all these years. He doesn't sit down very often. I'll be doing it till I die. It's something I look forward to every winter believe it or not. This is the last year that I will be doing firewood. The weather today was about as perfect as I could ask for in November, so while checking moisture content of the wood, I had to take this photo. Hope you all enjoy!

RespectYour tired ? I am 82 and still putting up 6-10 cords and enjoying every minute of the nice wood stove and heat all winter, when the snow and cold is flying.
I'm with you. Keep on cutting. That 82 is just a number.Respect
I’m 72, love splitting wood by hand. Been doing it all my life except in Florida.I’ve put up ten-twelve cords a year for the last 22 years. Every year I say it’s the last. I’m gonna buy a furnace. Hah. I’m 60 and damn tired. Still...
I reckon I’d like it a lot more if I didn’t HAVE to do it.I’m 72, love splitting wood by hand. Been doing it all my life except in Florida.
we do have a gas furnace now though.
For myself, I count the actual cord/volume, so 128(ish) cubic feet. But I cut my pieces at about 16" to make them easier to get into the boiler safely. I used to cut them at 24" but when I got married my wife couldn't get wood into the boiler without literally chucking it in, so I backed the length off. Honestly makes things easier all around.Dumb question, but when you guys count your cords for the winter, are they face cords, or 4x4x8 cords? Wondering what it takes to heat with wood.
