I shaved .010 off base of sizing die

I tried first-hand loads in the new custom chamber, and they chambered hard. I was advised to shave .010 off the base of the sizing die. So doing that solved the problem; full-length-sized brass chambers just find and shoot great. My question is, what is wrong with my chamber? I have other custom-chambered rifles that don't need anything shaved off.

What brand dies were you using?
Seems you have a head space (or a chamber) problem with your barrel.

It is short chambered, But you should check fired brass with a comparator, 0.010 may have been too much. But shaving the die is just a bandaid.

You might want to try a factory cartridge or new brass it it is an over the counter round/chamber. You didn't mention what cartridge it is.

Could you tell if it was tight at the shoulder, or maybe body diameter? jd

I recall speedy saying he was the first to shave a die .015. Now referred to as Redding type S You don’t have shave the exact difference between the chamber length and die, cam over isn’t absolute, I have dies that set up with .008 clearance and .004 clearance. Some with cam over.
YMMV of course.

I'm guessing you have a pretty tight chamber. I just had this issue with a 223 Wylde I had built. The idiot cut it .008" shorter than min spec. New Lapua brass chambered hard and was leaving marks on the bottom of the cases from being forced into the chamber with the bolt closing and camping over. Then, my dies wouldn't even size the fired cases down enough to chamber. I took it back and told him to fix it. He ended up going in another .005" which still leaves me with a .003" under min spec tight chamber...It just now barely closes on new lapua brass and the die just barely sizes it down enough to rechamber. He tried blaming it on Lapua brass, lol some peoples kids I tell ya...

I'm using a forester Co-Axe press
I had the same issue , the problem is the spring loaded shell holder is a little on the thick side . With redding and forester dies the fix was to shave ten thousandths off the die . Widdens 30br die had no issues. That's a 6.5x284, 300wsm, 6.5 creed redding fl die. My forester are 6br and 6 dasher. Oh , Speedy chambered the 6.5x284 and 300wsm. And it was Speedy or Stick that fixed those two dies .

Its not uncommon to have to do this with factory dies. If a chamber is cut on the tight side, which is good in my opinion. You can cut chambers deeper of course but then you stretch the brass more on the first firing.
Does" tight" mean the width of the chamber? I rented the reamer from 4Drentals. The bottom line is that the rifle is a tack driver.

I quit sizing in my bonanza co-ax presses. Found them to be very inconsistent. Maybe I'm just ignorant and don't know what i'm doing but went back to sizing in my RCBS and Redding presses and seat bullets in my co-ax's. Makes me happy, I guess that's what counts.
I milled .006 off my short mag shell holder last week. I cut the chamber pretty tight and the factory redding die would not size it. Took .004 off first and tried it, cut another .002 off, and the case sized down .002 just where I wanted it.
