Here i am at the fountain of knowledge with a question. Guys i just picked up a new just for fun rifle that has good reviews for hunting accuracy and is supposed to have a recessed 11 degree crown, after getting it home and removing the a2 birdcage that came on it i see that there is no crown of any kind, the barrel is simply cut flush at the muzzle with no type crown.
I have been shooting a long time but have never run across this before, have i just missed this in the past or is this a polished but unfinished muzzle? Thanks

Well, if it truly is supposed to come with a 11 degree crown I would contact the manufacturer.

That's not to say a "properly" cut flat crown is less accurate as many BR rifles utilize them.

You will be just fine with that flat crown, especially if you are using boat tail bullets. Most all our 600yd benchrest guns have a flat crown. We have tried them all and a flat one seems to work best.

You said you just took off a bird cage ( did you mean a muzzle brake ) if so they usually just machine the end of the barrel perfectly flat and install the brake. That is what I do when I install a brake, because you don't have to worry about the crown getting damaged with the brake installed.

Thank you everbody, that helps a lot. It is supposed to be a 11 degree crown on their website add for the rifle, so iwill guess they simply haven't change their add to reflect the new change.
I have sent them a email about it but it could be a while before i get a response. Now it's off to the range in the morning and see what happens, (there goes my excuse if i don't hold up my end of it). Thanks

A lot of the flat crowns shoot very well. Not my personal choice because of looks, but sometimes looks mean nothing.

If the flat end is correct, an 11* crown won't change a thing for accuracy. As pointed out the crown is for protection. If you hang something on the end of the barrel that becomes the protection. Shoot it like you stole it.
