I plan on shooting some local 'F' class this summer

I have just built up a Savage Target with a Timed and Trued action. It has a McGowen 30' bbl with a 8.5 twist, I had it chambered in 6.5x284 winchester with my reamer. The action is placed into a stock made by Sharp Shooter one of his new Laminate Varmint Tactical Stock in blue/blue/green. I have placed one of my Burris 8x32 target scopes on the rifle.
I have just gotten everything put together and I hope to start shooting it very soon.
Here are some pictures for you to enjoy.

I had some good weather to break in the barrel and shoot the first groups using Berger 140 vld's
The first group is about 0.005 in to the lands

The second and third groups are about 0.030 off from the lands.
If the 'sweet spot' is about 0.030 wide this will give me plenty of time to play catch the lands as I shoot.

Nice looking rig. Have you had it to the range yet? How does it shoot.
Do you have 20MOA scope bases on action. I you dont and want to shoot Fclass at 1000 yards that scope may not have enough elevation?? My Burris did not so I got rid of it. It was an older 8x32 signature series. I didnt like it much. Just a thought, you may have it all worked out already?

Again thats a good looking rig. Congrats on the new toy.

No I have not shot it yet, I hope to soon, warmer and less wind).
I have put aboout 20 MOA into the Burris signature rings with the inserts around the scope.
I will know more after the first time I shoot it.
Thanks for the thought

From your target pics, it looks like the 140s work better in the lands. Just make up a dummy round and verify that you can live-eject a round without the bullet getting pulled out by the rifling and you'll be fine. This is in case a cease-fire is called and you need to immediately clear the chamber.
Since you are going to do F-Class, I'd suggest trying it out prone. Your scope may need to be moved forward some for that position, as it will be different than sitting at a bench. Better to figure that out in practice than at the match. There will be no time for working on the rifle between strings at a match, as when you're not shooting, you will be either scoring or pulling pits.

Thanks js223

I have loaded a round about 0.005 into the lands and I can pull it out if needed.
Thanks for the heads up on checking the scope while prone, I did and it fits Ok,I may have to fine tune if needed after I get a chance to shoot a match)
I am looking forward to shooting the rifle this year.
