i need some stock help

I've been checking out stocks recently because I'm Waiting on my 1st 6mmbr barreled action to get back (trued 700 with a sendero tapered spencer barrel 14 twist for 68 gr bullets) . I was wondering who's got the best stock out there in laminated wood I've looked at shehane trackers ,west custom rifles, and russo custom stocks. I like the tracker styled stocks I was just wondering if anyone has had any problems with these guys and I think shehane keeps them in stock so I don't have to wait 6-8 weeks

The 1in 14 twist guns rule the local 400yd matches. This gun will be for shooting groundhogs off of sandbags and around here in. Mid east virginia a 600. Yd shot is hard to find. I have a 1in8 barrel here for this gun but I don't need a 1000yd 108gr bullet gun. Just like I wouldn't rebarrel a .222 that shoots 52gr bullets great so it will shoot some 80gr high b.c. vld. I like messing with the wind. I regularly shoot my old 52 .22 at 200 yds just to play. I was just looking for a nice laminated wood stock that sits well in sandbags. I would rather chew my leg off than buy some tactical black plastic stock for this gun. I can't stand this new fad of g.I.joe wannabes running around with flashlights, laser beams, fire extinguishers ,and battering rams attached to their triangle barreled mess. I like a plain gun with wood. Sorry about that backlash I'm just surronded by this stuff everyday and this website is one of the only ones I enjoy anymore.

antitatactial sheahane tracker stocks are top shelf. i like that baby tracker and am going to get one here one day.You can get one with a hunter benchrest forend if you dont want the 3" forend.
And as rockerton has said stocky gun stock has alot of stock at good prices but i dont
think you will find what you are looking for but hey give them a look.

I have 2 shahane stocks on rem.700 heavy bbl rifles. one is 2 1/2 wide and one 3" wide . they both great stocks but strictly benchrest. I rcently bought a Boyds laminated thumb hole for a rem. varmint bbl. with wide forend(beavertail) , drop in fit and completely finished. price was about $120.00 plus shipping, and I had it in 2 weeks. I can find no fault with them and I also got one for a Rem. 788 that iskim bedded and true oil finnished. good quality. great price and service . check theirweb sight. ronfoster

Check out the ultra walnut stocks at stockys, they are traditional looking but have a fairly wide forearm and they are a laminate with 2 layers of carbon fiber to stiffen the heck out of them for 199.00.I have one and it is a really nice stock and rigid.

Anti,
If you look at all of them you'll prolly find Russo's is the prettiest. That being said you should talk to Shehane. He is aces and will work with you to make sure you got what you need and what you want. That may not be a "perfect" overlay but it'l get you there.
Shehane traded me back a stock for an action I ordered but then found I could not use. Traded it even for one for another action I had. My fault, no charge.

I too find it odd that a 14 twist dominates at 400 yards. I would think that the 10 twist with the new 87 gr vlds would be perfect.

I have a Shehane Obeche French walnut coming for my Panda HV 30 BR. Can't wait to get it!!!

antitactical,

Shehane normally has some in stock. West would be close to you. Both make good stocks.

The reason as it was explained to me by my gunsmith is that there is not a selection of high quality bullets for that twist. You highest quality 6mms will be in the 64-69g range and then the heavy 100+ (1-8") range.

Not knocking Bergers and Sierras here, I know I have shot my fair share of them but the high quality bullets I'm referring to are ones that will pass the mustard on a Juenke machine, which is what the top competitors are looking for.

mshelton,

I have a Stiller Diamondback with a 12 tw, 10tw, and 8 tw barrels. The 12tw likes 60 gr to 80 gr. There are some great bullets for a 10 tw. 80 gr Berger and 80gr. Fowler, 88gr and 90 gr Berger. and a great bullet is the 95 gr flatbase Bib's. All these bullets are great short range and long range bullets. I agree the light benchrest bullets are the best made, y many people. But the mid size bullets are great bullets. The 88 gr Berger held IBS 600 yds light gun record for 2 years 2005 to 2007.

No worries Mark, I'm just relaying it to you as it was told to me.

Most of the rifles and bullets my smith builds are for the 100y or 1000y bench shoots and he's pretty obsessive.

A 600y rig built to those same standards would be a fun gun though.
