I need some counseling...

About twenty-five years ago I was writing for Precision Shooting Magazine. For various reasons, I ended up building a 22-378 Wby AI. Did some barrel coating testing for a rifle company.

Any way, I am completely remodeling my gunroom. I found the reamers and dies.

I'm getting this uncontrollable urge to build another one, and just fitting a barrel to my Savage 338 LM.

That's ridiculous. You could easily melt a bullet in the bore if you wanted to push it. Way overkill. Personally never been a fan of the crazy big overbores. Whatever floats your boat I suppose.

And they say the 220 Swift is a barrel burner...they don't know anything yet ;)

Definitely regrind that reamer. Keep the AI shoulder, just push it back .100 (you know it IS all about efficiency of late), keep the throat long and hope the case neck growth will match the throat wear.....;):p:rolleyes:

That would be the 22 eargesplitten loudenboomer read about it in P.O. Ackley's books some 25 years ago
wonder how it would do with a 90gr VLD.
powder tested was H570 really was not that fast do to it being so over bore very little velocity gain.
show a 50gr head at, 4,160's no did show 4,600 FPS

I would advise to sell the reamer and dies to the Smithsonian or firearms museum and put the money into a 6XC
yes that is what I would do.

I bet the Berger 90's would work great, they probably were'nt even thought of back then when you had the reamer made:)
all kidding aside,I loved reading your stuff back in the day.

I think it is TOO OVER BORE to be useful at all. I would doubt the barrel could last more than 200 rounds.
P.O. Ackley shooter and reloaders vol 1&2 were very good reading and it really was amazing what he experimented with and I do believe it was Fred Barnes tested some 100 gr 22 cal bullets on ELK at 500 yards So they really have done a lot of interesting testing a long time ago and a lot of it was Government Funded. I can not find the books, I think a few friends pirated them off or I just can't remember where they are..I would like to get another set of them.
Sorry about the flame thrower thing, I thought it was funny and could not stop laughing about it.
