Last winter i lost the use of my right eye, in a weekend it was simply gone, 50% detached retina. I had it repaired and now have some vision in it and some is a heck of a lot better than none. After a few months i was cleared to use light recoil rifles such as the ar platform, (5.56/.223) since i could to some extent reduce recoil with buffers and springs and butt pads.
I have kept it down to my 5.56 and 6.8 ar's to this point with no problems. Now the eye is completely healed, (the vision is not any better but thats ok) and the doctor says i'm ok for medium recoil rifles, however he's not a shooter and can't say what medium is. I will stay with the ar platform since it's working and offers the best recoil reduction at this time. I would like to get back to the .260 in 125gr/140gr or the .308 in 140gr/155gr in my ar's and be able to get back to punching paper just for fun. No competition of any kind.
I use the recoil calculator and it does help, however i haven't been able to find any real information on clinical research on recoil and eyesight. Perhaps one of our members here can point me in the right direction. Thanks
