I need Bergara PRC rifle choice help….

I have been wanting a 1K plus capable rifle for a while. I have several custom setups already but no purpose rig for ELR. I shoot lefty which limits my options and I really don’t want another full custom rig. I don’t shoot what I have enough as it is. I decided on a 6.5 PRC Bergara but they only make it in the Sierra model. I found a 7PRC HMR rifle on sale today for the same price as a new Sierra. I like both setups and think the HMR is a better deal. If I got the Sierra in 6.5 PRC I would add new AICS bottom metal. The HMR already has it. The Sierra is lighter so ideally I could also hunt with it whereas the HMR would be a range/target rifle. Somebody help talk me into one or the other. Is the HMR a big step up? Is the 7PRC a big recoil jump from the 6.5 PRC? I am not recoil sensitive but also want a useable rifle that I can see hits.

i think this comes down to your personal choice
I can spot hits just fine with 115 Dtacs out past 1000 yds
Having a "Light" rifle
does not contribute to accuracy or felt recoil
so also wanting to use it as a hunting rig???
is why I say now it comes down to personal choice
theres some really nice bullets for each caliber but
7mm gets the nod

even my 7 mm Mag feels relatively tame with simply having a good brake on it.

Last year I ended up getting the Bergara Canyon in 6.5 PRC. Not sure what your budget is, but the Canyon has their Premier S/S cerakoted action, Trigger Tech trigger, and an AG Composites carbon stock, all worth while upgrades over the Sierra and HMR models. I got mine on sale for $1400.

I contemplated the 7 PRC as well, but passed due to the increased recoil in a 6 lb gun. Having a couple 6.5 PRC's in the past, I knew what I was getting into recoil wise, & wasn't interested in going beyond that.

Thnx for the input. I am still leaning towards the 6.5 PRC. The deal on the 7 PRC is tempting and I am gonna go look at it again. If I buy the 6.5 Sierra I have to drop another $400 for new bottom metal and a magazine. The HMR has it all. If it came in 6.5 PRC left handed it wouldn’t be a question. My first ever rifle was a Browning A bolt in 7 mag. I loved it but it was alot of gun for me at the time. The HMR lets me run a V3 Cortina tuner brake and suppressor at the same time whereas the Sierra only lets me run the EC tuner brake or suppressor not both.

Unfortunately no lefty option. I would love a premier action or even just a lefty barreled action I can choose my stock but no lefties….

Sounds like the HMR is the right choice here.

I have all three PRC's My wife shoots the 6.5 with 144 sierras. 2950's easy recoil and good for a factory gun. Right a one moa out to 400. Great for what it is. 2nd is the 300prc which I bought to hunt with. I wanted this to replace my 300win. It will out shoot and definitely shoot the heavy's better do to twist rate and mag length for loading. Both the 6.5 and 300 prc's mag length are short for what I like in load development. This make my decision of the 7mm prc the best for a factory gun. Now freebore from manufacture to the same will differ.

Personally id stay with the 6.5 prc. I have 2 of them. I shot a friends 7prc and it was enough recoil difference to me that i would not want one. Did it hurt me, no but there was a difference as to i would not want to take it out shooting for fun. His did not have a break on it but did have a suppressor as so does mine.

7 mag recoil is not a fun choice or sustained strings of fire
