i like tuners

tuners and brakes work . i have two different brand models EC Tuner brake and from Adaptive Tuning System . the only problem i have with the EC T is than no one wants to shoot next to anyone when a brake is used . its a common problem with all muzzle brakes , not only the blast but dirt that can be kicked up, we don't like that at all. kinda wondering why ranges don't accommodate with barriers between shooters and .mat's with no dirt on them.

That would make sense with how common mb's are in today's world. Double ear protection certainly helps. Good shooting.

I'm replying from the standpoint of being the manager/president of a 1700 member shooting range.
Why should a club be asked to foot the bill to mitigate a problem that you created by installing a muzzle brake that you knew was going to cause said problem?

Does the range you manage prohibit muzzle brakes?

I dislike muzzle brakes.

BUT…….i have one on my PRS rifle as it’s nearly a necessity to have in that form of shooting. I went through a lot of them before I found one that didn’t bother my head. I can’t speak for those around me as the PRS crowd is accustomed to muzzle brakes so few people complain about them.

If some one puts dual exhaust on their jacked up pickup or a coffee can on their Civic, and both are legally acceptable forms of exhaust systems, why should it be their problem to accommodate to people who don’t like them?

If I show up to the range with a rifle that I’m using, configured for the discipline I’m shootong and you don’t like it, that’s not my problem.

If you know it’s a possibility that someone may show up with a rifle with a muzzle brake or a short barreled pistol, which can have equally obnoxious muzzle blast, than maybe you should pack some kind of barrier with your equipment to keep your range session effective.

That doesn’t mean that I still can’t be polite and bring my own as well, BUT, from my experience the vast majority of people who use muzzle brakes are not bothered by them to the extent that some of you are.

And again, I hate the things and shooting next to them. When I’m at a PRS match I’m as far away from the shooting line as I can be while still paying attention to what’s going on. But I’m not going to expect people to accommodate for me because of my situation.

I have a skewed point of view on this whole thing. I grew up and now live on private property that I have my own range. I’ve never had to go to a club to shoot so I don’t have the same perspective as many of you do.

It’s possible that if I didn’t have my current situation that’d I’d feel different about the topic.

At a certain range that has various bench match's, you are asked
at sign up if you are using a brake. If you are, you are segregated
to a separate relay. Hopefully, you will be separated by a bench.
If the line is full, and you do not have your own barricade.....Sucks
to be you !!

Truthfully, some independent thinking soul would or should have
come up with a standard and portable blast shield design. Put it
in a rule book. Yeah that !! We all love rule books....."Right" ??
No matter what, there will be no pleasing everyone, It's the nature
of things.

Why don't just use a cartridge you can handle without a brake? You disturb the air for the shooters on each side up you to shoot thru along with the items you have mentioned. So as a match director I have more than enough to do and don't feel its my job to cover up the problems you create for your fellow shooters. Very selfish. Just my opinion, has never changed from the day I was around my first one at a match. Do they have a place? On hunting rifles if it helps a guy make a more ethical shot with an appropriate cartridge for the game. Save your breath, I have heard it all.

hello ....Adaptive Tuning System is not a brake

But guy's are buying the ATS so they can screw a brake on to it.
I've only seen one ATS since they were released, and it had a
5 gill brake on it.

I have plenty of of breath so I’ll chime in.

I use a brake simply to try watch the bullet flight or watch where it hit a target or more importantly where I miss.

I tried shooting PRS with a 223 and a 223 Ackely that weighed 22-25lbs depending on the day.

I wasn’t able to watch bullet trace with either of those rifles like I am with a 6x47, the same weight, with a brake on it.

So, it’s not about the shooters ability to handle recoil in many cases.
