I like moly coated bullets but...

I use mostly moly coated bullets in my shooting, but I checked my .223 barrel the other day and pushed a kroil soaked patch thru the bore and saw some "brown" on the patch.

It was 3 months since last cleaning . Am I seeing rust due to moly?
If I am, how often should i run an oil patch through the bore?

My positive effect consists of lower pressure for a given powder charge. I acknowledge that when I'm close to max case capacity I lose on case capacity. I shoot a factory Tikka (Sako) barrel 24"
My benefit is more shots without cleaning.
Am I wrong?

Might be true. Just make sure you are using a solvent designed to remove Moly when you clean. Some standard firearm cleaning solvents will not get it out of your barrel. If it builds up enough, it can cause a lot of problems including damage to your barrel

I cant think of a positive effect moly has. And ive been watching it for 20yrs.

Watching the container will do nothing, you need to put it on the bullets. Lol.

I work on em therefore i wont! Gotta clean em just as much or you have layers of carbon with moly caked on top of it. I hear the wet moly is a little bit better but i still dont see anybody at matches using it. But hey theres a place for everything if you use it right.

Dusty, do you feel the same about tungsten disulphide (Danzac)? It doesn't build on itself like moly. It seemed to help reduce the amount of cleaning required when I shot competitive IBS Score with the 30BR years ago, and I used it in my 6mm's when I shot group before that. I never encountered any problems with it, but it seemed to reduce cleaning needs & copper.

Eric - Exactly the same with my moly coated .224 bullets. It does draw moisture to the bore. That is why I don't use it any more. Get to work with a tight brush and your favorite solvent.
