i have read there break in procedure, and will probably do what they suggest, just want to know, if its supposed to be a hand lapped match barrel, does it really need to be broke in?

really you are only checking for any copper fouling on your first few rounds, I have 5 shilen barrels , I shoot 1 or 2 clean look for fouling shoot 5 same thing after that I'm good

What you are "breaking in" is the throat. The chamber is cut after the barrel is lapped and there are always some very small burrs left as the reamer cuts across the lands & lays over a small burr on each land as you go from the neck cut to full rifling. You can't cut metal mechanically with the sharpest tool without leaving a burr. A good custom lapped barrel will clean up very quickly, as it is only this area that must be polished up. Cheaper and rougher barrels take much longer as the whole barrel is, in effect, being broken (polished) in.
