I put together an excel file to keep powder inventory.

1. Count your powder in pounds and multiply by 7000 that is the total number of grains
2. As you use powder deduct it from inventory. Say in December you will load 200 cases of IMR4064 and each case is 35.8 grains so I would enter -716 for the month of December. If I do more loading then I just add it to the total for that month.
3. In column "O" it will give you the total grains left over
4. In column (P) it will give you the total lbs left over
5. In column (Q) gives you an average number of rounds that you produce based on 45 grains per round

Column (Q) can be specific to any grains.

I use another method. If i see powder for sale, and it is something i use and the price doesn't make me choke i buy it.

These days, I've been doing the same. I have had to adjust my idea of what it takes to choke.

You can modify the file to use it for bullets and primers and do a "save as".

If I remember, F Class John did a video on weighing Powder Cans (Plastic) to figure out by weight how much inventory you had, He weighed the jug empty then weighed fulls and partials.

Consider my self old and out of touch. Over my life as a handloader, I have found that if I liked a powder, I would keep an unopened pound in my inventory. Retired in 2010 and shifted to 5 and 8 pounders. Several of those powders have backups in my inventory. I use the Armstong method to determine how much of a certain powder I have available and it has not failed me yet. Our world has shifted and powder is no longer as available as it was. Today, buy long before the need arises, provide you feel you are not being taken advantage of. Truly miss the days of going to my local dealer and buying what I needed. Can't begin to count the number of things I have purchased over the years, when I went out to buy something else. Have made a couple of gun deals while drooling over my dealer's stock.

What caught so many short was the education/experience of ON TIME manufacturing and inventory. Much easier to control people when food,fuel,energy and in America's case ammo is in short supply OR very expensive. A plan is being executed.
