A local gun shop has had a Reidl in 7mm Remy Mag at the local show for two years. It looks unfired.
serious negotiations brought it down to $800, and I bought it.

I am happy not to be catholic, because this would be a lot, make that a L-O-T of Hail Marys.

Story similar except I didn't fall from Grace. Local gunshop was closing it's doors. They had what looked like a Rem 700 Sendero II in 338 RUM. Black HS stock/Matt finish fluted. New on display. Asking price was 699.00. Walked away. Wanted that gun so bad but that falling from grace thing just sank in. Went back of course a couple days later when I lost my mind but long gone. Dang it anyway. Oh well. Gave me a better reason to build a 338 lapua improved. All things happen for a reason.

The rest of the story; I first saw this rifle more than thirty years ago. A local gunsmith used to work for Reidl down in CA. When they began to fail, Larry was the gunsmith who assembled the rifles. They did not have the $$$ for his last three checks. In lieu of payment, he received three complete actions for finishing the last customer rifles. He had them at a high end shop priced at $1200 per. I could barely afford Ruger #1's in those days. Any way, he built this one for himself, but had some health issues; and never shot it. My buddy had it listed for over a grand.
Punchline: a gentleman put this rifle on layaway a several months ago with a $250 deposit. My buddy never saw the guy again. After a couple months, he finally caught the guy on the phone. Short story; the guy said he had changed his mind. My buddy tells him the deposit is non-refundable after the time lapse. Guy says he does not care. At the show Saturday my buddy has the rifle for sale. We played the negotiating game a couple hours, and finally he says, I can take the $250 off since I already have that $$$.

$800, oh yeah! I can do that!!
