Hydrodipping a stock

I’m planning on getting a benchrest stock hydrodipped for a panda. As this being my first time looking into it I’m not super fimiliar on a couple things. I spoke with liquid illusion on the phone and they quoted me $150 plus shipping for a one color dip and clear coat.

What that being said is that cost about the norm? What other companies are recommended and will dipping a stock have any negatives. Such as stock bedding, or anything else.

I was told I can pick about any color from the house of Kolour website.

thats a pretty good price, there are a bunch of good companies out there that do it. the prep makes the difference..

Sounds like a decent price to me. I would have to think twice before dipping a wood or laminate stock concerning water intrusion into the pores whereever there may be uncoated wood.

Hydrodipping generally requires a painted base coat so no water intrusion there.

That’s about how much I paid to have one done, the only guide line was depending on what dip pattern I picked “could” dictate what color the base coat had to be.

If I did another one I would tape off the areas I didn’t want painted or dipped with it noted “no paint or dip” in that spot so there is no misunderstanding.

What he said ^^^. I masked off what shouldn't be painted before I dropped it off. He took it out and started over, doing it his way, but then there was no mistake where I didn't want paint. .. Don't be afraid to stand out !

make sure they will make sure the bodywork is perfect before they dip. ive seen them just base coat then dip over paint chips and other flaws- looks awful. also you need to show them that squared off forend block- you will not like the way the film goes around that.

I'm having a stock done right now by a local company. I will update as to the quality of the work when I get the stock back next week. All of the sample work he had in his shop looked very nice.
Thanks,

Lloyd

All hydro dips get a clear coat after dipping. It just provides a stronger finish. I'm gonna be the odd guy out and say 150.00 is on the higher side ( IMO) based on my experience. In the ball park tho for a dipped stock. At least in my geographic location. I just had one dipped Kryptec Typhoon on a Manners tactical stock. Price OTD was 120.00 complete. I asked about a one color dip for my son's gun. They told m they don't dip single colors. He would paint it with and clear coat over it. Cost for that was 100.00 OTD.

Sounds like a Mako paint job to me , not much prep just in and out. They look terrible "
You get what you pay for these days.
I would take it to the automotive painter that'll get the prep right and lay down some nice colors.

Second choice is satin black rattle can primer &paint go rockabilly!

Yep, fill in the holes & cracks, wet sand or scotchbrite the base coat, then dip. BTDT.
