Hunting with a .260

JP LRP07 shooting 129 gr Hornady SST over a healthy dose (43.0gr of H4350. One shot kill on a whitetail deer at 580 yards.

My son's hunting rifle is a 260. It is throated specifically for the Berger 130 VLD. We are shooting a stiff load of 4831sc.

It shoots great. My only gripe is that the tune that we have is with the bullets jammed. I like my hunting rounds to use a jump vice a jam.

Used my 260 with the 140 Amax, H4350, 42.7, jumping 20. Furthest muley was 490, most were between 300-400, shot placement counts, they didn't go far.

140 Amax using Ramshot Hunter. 3 Deer in 40 minutes, 2 Bucks, 1 Doe. Farthest was a short 125 yards. The Bucks it the ground where they stood and the Doe ran about 25 yards. All 3 lung shots. The load I shot was not the most accurate, I was short on time and threw it together. It was under 1.5 inches at 100 yards. I felt okay with it because 1 I will not shot if I don't feel 100% sure I can kill the game, and 2 where I was hunting max yardage was 150.

One mule deer at 224 yards and one whitetail at 125 yards one shot kills. I was using Berger 120 gr. BT bullets at about 2900 fps.

Back when Remington came out with the Rem 700 in 260 Rem my hunting buddy bought one. It was before he could even get hold of any factory ammo or even cases to load. We made the cases out of Rem. 243 Win cases by necking them up. They came out with the proper neck length where 308s necked down were a bit short. We treated it like a wild cat because there was no load data out yet for the 260 Rem. Decided on H4350 powder. We had Sierra 120 and 140 SP. We used CCI-BR2 primers and decided on 47 grs with 120 and 45 grs with 140. We did not have a chrno at the time to use. This rifle was the 24" stainless steel in the Tupperware stock. It was a shooter, ragged hole at 100 with both loads and 1 inch at 300 yards was normal. We were doing crop damage control work on a big farm in east NC at the time. We had to take 100 deer a year off the farm each year. I shot 5 deer with this rifle and my buddy shot 49 with it using both loads from almost point blank to a little over 500 yards. All deer except one were BANG FLOP. It was a doe and she took only three jumps before crashing. We use shoulder shots and wait for the deer to turn broad side. My buddy never keeps a rifle long and without my knowing it he sold it to another of our friends who gave him much more for it than I would of anyway so no big deal. Fellow still has that rifle and still uses the same loads we did and between him and his grandson kills a bunch of deer with it every year.

Not a 260 yet, but 6,5x55 and 6,5x284 which is 6,5mm bullets at same velocities. Have used 120gr Nosler BT, 120gr Hornady Amax, 123gr Hornady Amax, 140gr Sierra Boattail, 140gr Hornady Amax and shot small deer by the hundreds. No complaints, the 260 will work equally well.

White tail- X 6 300yds max
Mule deer-X 2 420yds max
Tons of ground hogs 872yds max
Steel gong 1750yds

All shot with 140gr amax and h4350

Killed multiple deer to 520 yards. Mine is a 26" 260 AI. I use 140 Hornady SST's. It's also tight enough for me to use this hunting gun on 600 yard gongs with good success.

Texas whitetail
Nosler hunting ballistic tip 100 grain
Varget
Shot through the heart at 72 yards, ran 41 yards.
In the future I will use a heavier bullet.

It may have been the smallest deer ever shot but it broke my curse of never getting a deer. I have hunted Africa but been skunked on deer.

I built a .260AI for my father on a Rem 7 action. We're loading 130gr SGK bullets with XBR and Wolf Mag primers. His barrel is a little over 24" and thus far all the deer we've shot have been one shots kills with a fantastic entrance and exit (when they exit). I have been very impressed with the 6.5 bore throughout it's use, but then again it's been used on everything from men to elephants.

I use the same load as Stubb--43.0 Gr H4350 behind either a Hornady or Nosler 129/130 Gr. Longest shot is about 300 yards on a whitetail. That is as far as I will attempt a shot at a game animal.

140 Amax with eithere h4350 or rl-22 (not conventional 260 powder but works great) deer out past 400. Great hunting bullet.

I bought a Ruger 77 for my kids to hunt with, it has been an excellent round for them. My son shot his first mule deer 175 yards. My daughter shot a 300 lbs feild dressed black bear over hounds. and i shot a mule deer 35 yards. all with factory loaded sierra game kings. All one shot kills although the black bear ran about 75 yards. I wouldn't hesitate to use it on elk with a good shot. It's a great round I find myself grabbing it as much as the 300wsm i have had since they first came out.
