I've shot a bunch of turkeys, a handful of deer and a couple of coyotes out of pop-up ground blinds. I mostly use Ameristep Doghouse or the Sportsmans Guide equivalent. The Doghouses are under $90, the SGs are less than $50 (on sale). I have four of that type. They are great for gun/crossbow hunting. Not a lot of room to draw a compound, but very doable. When it's below the zero, you can get by without a heater because the smaller interior holds body heat a bit. I also have a SG 6 panel magnum pop-up, ~$90. Lots more room, no problem shooting any thing out of it. You can stand up & stretch. Plenty of room for sleeping pad and bag. My only issue is the shooting windows are for me, too high off the ground for my favorite swivel chair. I have to use a taller chair. I just picked up a SG Guide Gear Flare 360. (~$90) It's a hub style w/360 degree view. Jury is out yet, but I think I'm going to be using it a lot. Much better viewing, lots of shooting options. The only downfall I see so far is it's really going to leak air and won't be as warm as the small Doghouse size.
You can shoot fixed blade broadheads through the mesh. I have killed a couple of bucks shooting through mesh window. Do not shoot expandables through the mesh, I have tried it in my backyard. At 20 yards, the arrow I tried hit a foot low and right.
Cut a piece of carpet for the floor, get accessory hangers, shelves, etc. As has been mentioned get a good swivel chair and longer tent stakes. If legal wear black inside the blind. I wear an oversize cheap black hooded sweat shirt, a black balaclava and black gloves.
Put the blind up well before season and brush it in. A center support pole might be needed if you hunt where it snows. I use one made by Browning, it doubles as a shooting stick when I'm in the blind.
I have a couple of blinds set up for practice, I'll attach pics. Mike
