Hunter Class Benchrest stocks

I'm mentally working through the details of my next rifle, which I want to use off a bench but also want to take into the field hunting varmints. Am thinking about the McMillan hunter class benchrest stock, but am concerned about the 2.25 inch width for carrying, and concerned about the well defined edges of the stock. Not sure it will be comfortable to carry. Anyone with experience with this stock? What did you think of it in the field? Off a benchrest?

I've been shooting one for 20 years. They work great off of the bench. As far as carrying the rifle, in the field, unless you plan on carrying it by the forend, you should have no problems. Shooting one offhand takes a little getting used to.

Thanks for the reply Doc. I don't think I would use it offhand....probably have a bipod on it all the time I'm in the field.

When you shoot it off a rest, do you use a 3 inch bag or a smaller bag that fits the stock better?

An original Remington 40XBR walnut stock might work out well for you [ assuming you are using a Remington or clone action :) ]. Or a standard Remington 40X stock with a custom 3" glide plate attached to the forend rail.
