i need a good bottom metal detach magazine system for an hs police long action stock. Any suggestions? I am gonna do a 284 for myself. I’ve not messed with hs stocks all that much. Any no is good info. Thanks

Either their magazine or buy and alternative like CDI, Badger, or Surgeon and have it milled to fit. I've done all four and happy with each. The HS will be the easier since its already milled to fit their own magazine.

That's what I was thinking, I've just never had my hands on one. Also it looks like dave Kiff sells a bottom metal that might fit. It's about 100$ cheaper than the HS.

I have not used their LA but I did have their SA on a hunting rifle for a while.

Likes:

It is steel, so when I had it bead blasted it matched my stainless action
The mags don't stick out way below the rifle. Your hunting rifle doesn't look tacticool
easy to unload

Dislikes:
It's steel, it's heavy(er) compared to aluminum
Mags require an OAL that is quite a bit shorter than other DBM mags.
Only uses HS Mags.

In the end I won one of Kiffs systems and I installed it on the rifle I had the HS installed on, but the only reason that I did it was to get more OAL, and frankly I kind of wish I hadn't. In my application as a hunting rifle the 3 or 4 round mag was ideal. I like not having an AI pattern mag hanging out of the bottom of the rifle. I may go back.

I have multiple HS Prec detach mag systems on Rem 700's, both SA and LA. They work/feed/function very well and I've never had a single problem with any of them. With a 284 in one of their LA mag systems you'll have plenty of length to work with.

The HS is identical to the OEM Remington bottom metal. At least the Gen I HS is.

Another vote for the HS Mag system. They are a little pricey but I really like the features they offer. Number one being that when used on a hunting rifle especially there is no accidentally hitting the lever to drop the mag, it's recessed in very nicely and only comes out when you want it to. They also offer higher capacity mags if you really want one.

I believe the lengths that their DM systems will accommodate is listed on HS Prec site. Mine all have the standard capacity mags and you can barely even see them.

The older Gen I bottom metal had the inside trigger guard release making it exactly that, a good hunting set up. The only problem I've had with them is they are not easy to release. Takes alot of pressure and in cold weather, it can be all but impossible to release. The Gen II makes the release much easier almost like they fixed the issue with the new generation setup.

Be careful if you buy original HS Precision button and magazines direct from HS. They differ in the way the mag to button catch or engage. HS sells to the public a different setup, but it looks identical from the outside. Original HS setup have a lip in the rear part of magazine and buttom has a catch where it engages. The ones that stockys or other vendors sale don't have the same configuration . Call HS
