Howa 1500 barrel removal

The last four factory barrels I've removed from these actions have been so tight..blued action, chrome moly barrel.its untrue.that much red loctite they are solid.these are the only ones that give me trouble, the stainless ones no problem.i can't understand why they use so much loctite, they don't need any really.the machining and threading on the tennon is quite good considering it's a mass produced product.i find the fit and finish is better than some of the Remingtons.any one else have these issues with them.

All it takes is some heat to loosen the sealant. Drip some kroil in the action at the barrel tenon and heat it til you see some bubbling out of the scope base holes. Itll come right off. Like shortgrass said, if those salts got in there youd have an insanely rusted together joint after a couple years.

I have had to heat two of them.there were traces of what looked like red loctite before I started.i have had Remingtons rusty as old iron on the joint.

With Howa rifles, are you removing a portion of the shoulder of the barrel that butts up against the action to release some of the tension? Once done, they are usually pretty good for coming off.
The barrels are fitted tight from the factory.

I have always used a parting tool to cut a relief on the shoulder on Howas and the barrel spins right off with ease. I have heard people say that barrels come off new Howas much eaiser, I don't know because I have only removed barrels off Howas that are 7 years or older.

No machining because some of them have to go back on.

I think it was Butch or one of the other guys here suggesting to put a mapgas torch up in the chamber until your see smoke coming out the scope base holes. Initially sounded like it would be expanding the wrong item but apparently it's just enough to destroy the sealant not to expand the barrel / action.

I haven't tried it but will in a few months.

I had to do this on a Mini purchased 6 months ago. After making cut it was just a bump with the wrench and spin off by hand.

Is the action and barrel carbon steel on the standard Howa and the Mini action ? Does anyone make a carbon steel or stainless steel trigger guard

You asked on every Howa thread you could find and I think you got your answer on at least two of the other threads.
