How to test old scope for fogging?

I purchased an old Model 70 with a Kollmorgan 4x scope mounted. As an old guy, I would like to hunt with it just the way it is. Scope is very clear and I shot 2x 3-hole groups yesterday with the combo. I seem to remember something about putting the scope in the freezer, then when cold immersing in water.

Getting the scope set for me and sighted in was brutal, so I hate to remove the scope. Is there another way to test for fogging?? Surely something has come along in the last 50 years that works better. Thanks, Don

Reminds me of the 50's.

OK. You must have a fear that using the scope to hunt with will have it fog. I say hunt with it but have a back-up in case it does. There's another way that occurs to me.

Chill the rifle in a refrigerator. When/if you can find a warm day with high humidity, take the gun/scope out into the air. Moisture will immediately condense on the gun and scope. Now watch.

Of course, you will have to clean up the rifle both inside and out when finished.

Now if you did that test or tried letting water sit on a lens and it fogged, what will you do? There are people who will service them. Dig around and expect to pay.

Buy two of the blue cold packs that are used for medical stuff - the ones that are soft plastic bags that you put in the freezer.
Then put them in the freezer ;) Leave them there over night.

In the morning, wrap them over the objective and eye piece. Check the lenses in 30 minutes. There will by moisture on the outside - wipe it off with a tissue - look for condensation on the inside that doesn't wipe off - if there is none, you are fine.

Don't put your rifle in the fridge... you will accomplish nothing but making a mess of it all. :(
