How to Store Lots of Ammo?

As I become more proficient with reloading, I am ending up with more ammo than storage space. I could buy some more MTM ammo boxes, but more looking for something I can store in an orderly way at home that does not have to be as nice as the MTM stuff. The shell holders that come in ammo boxes are ideal, but have none of those left. Threw them out before I thought I would need them.

Or maybe I should just not load so much, but if one has multiple calibers and a couple hundred rounds for each, that can add up.

look around for the standard M2 ammo cans from the military. water proof and air tight when in good shape. Ziploc baggies for pistol ammo as well.

I can relieve you of your concern. Just send all ammo to me and I'll store and even dispose of it for you. I'm guessing you won't opt for that so here is so more usefull info.

Where I work, we go through hundreds of thousands of rounds in multiple calibers per year. It's all military stuff. We receive it and keep it stored in the various green metal ammo cans (as described above) and keep all cans on wooden pallets 6"off the ground. Ammo will last a very long time when stored this way.

For recreational shooters there is no real need to overprotect ammo. You certainly want to keep it dry, away from excessive heat, etc. Store it in a safe place, in one of the plastic ammo cases and it should be just fine.

Many years ago I found some commercial 300 Win Mag 180 gr ammo that shot great from my rifle (no need to reload for this rifle after I found this lot of ammo). I bought 5 boxes (100 rds) and have used it to kill a good number of elk and moose. This ammo has been stored in long term storage when I was stationed overseas and sat on shelves in my garages in Montana, Nevada, and Washington State and it still shoots great to this day.
