How to remove/repair barrel rust

This is a ruger #1 I purchased in the last year. There's alittle rust by the barrel band. What should I do for this?

If you want to make it look good, boil and card. Recently did an 870 wingmaster, it was bad, the whole thing. When i was done, it didn't look new, but was 95% better after several boil and card sessions. Wish I would have taken photos. It was crazy the transformation.

Boil and card? I'm not following

Yes, exactly what that video shows. Boil it in water for 30 minutes or however long you want then carding wheel. The wingmaster I did had some really heavy surface rust. After doing several cycles, I still had heavy rust, so I took it to a regular wire wheel and very lightly was able to get the heavy stuff off. This was tricky though, too heavy and you will remove bluing, too light and it wouldn't take the rust off. This was after it had been boiling for 5-6 hours so what rust was there on the barrel was converted and what was left looked like it never happened. With light rust the carding wheel does the job just fine.

The areas on the gun that lost the bluing completely are not coming back to blue. That shotgun was in my shop for a few weeks before I got to it and several guys walked in asking what pond it was pulled from. After it was done, looked like a really nice old used wingmaster.

With yours based on the photo I would think it wouldn't take long to boil just the end there and card it.

Big 45 Frontier metal cleaning pad. Works like magic and will not harm the bluing. I've used it for years on all sorts of rusted weapons and it never ceases to amaze me how well it works!
